Dear Phoenix Families:
Phoenix employees and families,
We wanted you to be aware of an accident that occurred outside our school on Friday, September 30 during dismissal. One of our students was struck while utilizing the crosswalk in front of our school. She was taken by medical responders to the hospital for evaluation but is OK.
This is a good time to remind our students, families, and all of those in our community to please use extra caution around schools, crosswalks, and adjacent intersections. Please watch for buses and children walking or riding their bicycles to school. Below are some additional safety tips from North Dakota Vision Zero.
Tips for Pedestrians:
Be Visible.
Stay Alert – Avoid Distractions. Electronic devices can take your eyes and ears off the road.
Be Predictable. Follow the rules of the road and obey signs and signals.
Walk on sidewalks whenever they are available.
Cross streets at crosswalks or intersections whenever possible.
Never assume a driver sees you.
Tips for Motorists:
Be Alert. Look out for pedestrians at all times.
Follow posted speed limits at all times, especially in areas of heavy pedestrian traffic. This is even more important in areas that have lower speed limits, such as school zones and neighborhood streets where pedestrians may appear suddenly.
Weather conditions. Visibility is harder during inclement weather and in poorly lit areas. Make sure your lights are on and use your signals.
Be mindful when pulling in and out of driveways. Pedestrians can quickly move into your path.
Crosswalks. Always yield to pedestrians, reduce your speed and be prepared to stop.
If you have any questions, please contact the school office. Thank you,
Principal Kevin Ohnstad

Phoenix Book Fair
Our fall Book Fair will be a familiar, welcome, and safe event for our students. Here's what you need to know about the Fair, which will take place from October 12th - 18th in the Phoenix Library. The book fair will be open for shopping during your child's regularly scheduled Library time, as well as our conferences.
Our Book Fair offers a cash-free payment option called eWallet. It's a convenient digital account that your child can use for shopping at our Fair. Grandparents, friends, and others can contribute, too!
We're excited to celebrate our love of books together at the Book Fair!
Happy Reading,
Mr. Ohnstad

Monitor
Parenting isn’t always easy, especially in today’s world. The good news is there are steps that can help protect your kids as they grow older. Effectively monitoring your kids through
every stage in their lives is one important way to reduce their risk of becoming involved in
potentially harmful situations or engaging in risky behaviors. Start monitoring your kids early
on, in ways that are age-appropriate. In fact, the earlier you begin monitoring, the easier it will be to continue as your kids get older and the more they’ll expect it from you.

Is my child too sick for school???
In case of a fever:
Following any fever over 100 degrees, a child should stay at home until he/she has been fever-free for at least 24 hours without the use of over-the-counter products (i.e. Motrin, Tylenol -never give a child aspirin). During the early morning hours, a child's temperature will often register as normal, whereas later in the day it may rise again. This is one reason why a child needs a period of at least 24 hours without an elevated temperature before returning to school.
In case of vomiting and diarrhea:
Children who have been vomiting or have diarrhea need a period of time to regain strength before returning to school. Children should be kept home a minimum of 24 hours after the last bout of vomiting and diarrhea.
We want your child to feel good and get the most out of their day. Please support this by following the above guidelines and let your child recuperate before returning to school. This will help the other students and staff healthy.
Please contact the school nurse if you have any questions or concerns.
Attendance Matters!!!
Students need to be in school every day, on time, and ready to learn!
First bell rings at 8:30am - Tardy bell rings at 8:25 am
Parents are expected to call the office by 8:30 am every day that their child will not be in attendance.
The attendance line is: 746-2241
Communication between home and school ensures student safety.
