Irish Gifted Academy
Week of October 30th, 2022
From the Desk of Dr. Norfleet
Happy Weekend to all of our family members!
We had a wonderful week at IGA culminating in our House Day/Fall Festival celebration. What
an amazing time we had! I want to thank all of our staff members who worked so hard to plan,
execute, and clean up the event. I also want to thank all the parent volunteers, business
partners, and all the parents and family members who came out to join the kids.
This week, I wanted to highlight Mrs. Allen’s ELA 5 th grade class that was focusing on identifying and writing theme statements. Also, Coach Williams’s 5 th grade math class was working on multiplying and dividing fractions. So many great things are happening in our instruction and in our culture building activities.
We look forward to another exciting week coming up! Hope your weekend is a great one.
From the Desk of Mrs. Methvin
Wow! What an EXCITING week at IGA with education reimagined!
Our Reimagineers have experienced Autumn weather, practiced reading comprehension
skills, explored numerals with computation, earned House Points, and enjoyed our
Fall Festival/House Day! THANK YOU to the staff, parents, and students who
made our week so successful. You are loved and appreciated!
As we appear to be in the midst of cold/flu season, I would like to once again
stress the importance of attendance and written notes (parent or doctor) when
your child is absent from school. Georgia's Compulsory School Attendance Law
20-2-690.1 became much stricter in regard to truancy. The new law states
that more than five (5) unexcused absences constitute truancy. A missed
school day is a lost opportunity for students to learn. Teacher effectiveness is the
strongest school-related determinant of student success, but chronic student
absence reduces even the best teachers' ability to provide learning opportunities.
Students who attend school regularly have been shown to achieve at higher levels
than students who do not have regular attendance. Please remember that when
your child is absent, a parent note or doctor’s note is required for the absence to
be considered excused. If you have any questions or concerns, please call 478-353-
8490.
