January 26, 2024
Dear BCS Community,
As you know, staffing concernes continue to challenge us throughout ACSD. In Bridport, we have an opening for a paraprofessional that we have been unable to fill. In Shoreham we also are looking for at least one paraprofessional and we are also looking for a long term substitute to cover upcoming planned absences.
Additionally, we are always in need of more mental health and counseling support. We are very happy that CSAC has been able to provide us with a 3 day per week School Based Clinician. Carrie Harvey is a phenomenal addition to both schools and we are looking forward to her being able to go to full time in May!
Despite the herculean efforts of our amazing paraprofessionals, custodians, cooks, administrative assistants, AND teachers, we all know that there continues to be needs that we are unable to meet. As we continue to look outside of our two buildings for answers, I (we) feel that we have to take immediate action to support our students in the best way possible.
To that end, beginning on 2/8/24, Amber Bragg, our current counselor in Bridport, will begin working in Shoreham on Thursdays. Additionally, Kate Cunningham will also be assigned to Shoreham on Thursdays (as a paraprofessional). On other days, Kate and Amber will support in the same ways they have previously. Amber will be at BCS 4 days per week, and Kate will teach music at BCS/SES & Cornwall.
Decisions like this are never easy. We know that we need more support for all students, and we will continue to work with our district, communities and staffs to do what is right for all students.
Ms. Urban and I invite your feedback and look forward to discussing this more at our upcoming community meetings. Please see below for dates and times for each meeting.
Thank you for your continued support.
Respectfully,
Matthew Brankman
Principal
Resources
Help our schools with one simple form!
All school meals will be free again for ALL students.
But, it's still VERY IMPORTANT to complete the free and reduced meal application form. Our district gets $475,000+ each year based on the % of students who qualify for free/reduced meals. So, if you fill out the form, you help us qualify!
A paper application will come home with your child, or apply now online.
