HOLY ROSARY SCHOOL
NEWSLETTER | TERM 1| WEEK 3 | 16 FEB 2024
To be alive is to look up at the stars.... and to feel the beyond-words awe of space in its vastness. To be alive is to look down from a mountaintop ... and to feel the wonder that can only be expressed in “oh” or “wow” or maybe “hallelujah.” To be alive is to look out from the beach toward the horizon at sunrise or sunset and to savour the joy of it all in pregnant, saturated silence. [It’s] to gaze in delight at a single bird, tree, leaf, or friend, and to feel that they whisper of a creator or source we all share.
Brian D. McLaren, We Make the Road by Walking: A Year-Long Quest for Spiritual Formation, Reorientation, and Activation
Hi Everyone,
A wonderful Ash Wednesday Mass in Our Lady of the Rosary Church, where our children participated in reverently and enthusiastically. Father Peter and the parish give us a lovely welcome and we are very grateful. Holy Rosary School is very connected to our parish. The Church - an iconic building opened in the early 1970s, is worth a visit if you haven’t already been in there. The initial church of the parish was actually the two rooms we use for Music at the moment the stained-glass windows give them away. The building used to be one room, used as classrooms during the week and as a Church on the weekend. We have come a long way!
First assembly next week! In the gym, hosted by our Year Four gang. We look forward to seeing you there! We begin as close to 8.55 as possible. Keep an eye out in this newsletter for award recipients.
Enjoy the weekend,
Mark
Parent Volunteer Declaration
We appreciate the tremendous support Holy Rosary receives from our parent community, with no shortage of volunteers to help run tuckshop, school events and carnivals as just a sample. If you anticipate volunteering at Holy Rosary this year, please complete the short online form below. The declaration lasts for one year. The requirement is common to all schools.

Project Compassion
Next Wednesday the eldest child in each family will bring home a Project Compassion collection box. Donations can be placed in this box in support of Caritas Australia and returned to school by Monday 25 March.
This year's Project Compassion theme is 'For All Future Generations'. This message invites us to step up for those who do not have the essential resources they need for their survival and those whose needs at this time are far beyond ours. By putting compassion into action, we can make a difference today, 'For All Future Generations'.

Parent Reps Needed!
The role of the parent representative is to support the school P&F by being a liaison between the school and the parent community. Parent representatives will help inform parents about activities planned either by the school, the P&F or within the year level. Often, parent representatives organise class or year-level functions to provide parents with the opportunity to meet together in a relaxed and social atmosphere.
The following classes still require a volunteer as their Parent Representative:
Kindy Dominic
Year 1 Dominic
Year 2 Catherine and Year 2 Dominic
Year 3 Catherine and Year 3 Dominic
Year 5 Catherine and Year 5 Dominic.
If you would like to act as a Parent Representative for your child’s class, please complete the form below and return it to the school office.

Year Three Super Stars
The library was full of love this week as we celebrated St Valentine’s Day and the beginning of Lent. Children are now borrowing weekly, so it is imperative that they have a Holy Rosary Library Bag on their borrowing day. Bags can be purchased from the Front Office.
Library is an important and special time each week to develop reading and comprehension skills, but also to learn to relax and unwind in a safe and comfortable space. Whilst it may not be a formal lesson, it is vital for younger years to establish a love of reading and older years to develop their skills using the Accelerated Reading Program. Thank you for encouraging your child to be organised on their library day.

“There is nothing sweeter in this sad world than the sound of someone you love calling your name.” – The Tale of Despereaux by Kate DiCamillo
Today, 2C started their Aussie Optimism ‘Feelings and Friends’ program. They had a lot of fun, and I will continue to see them for each Friday for 10 sessions. They will have a workbook to bring home at the end of the program.
Year Four ‘Seasons for Growth’ consent forms need to be returned to me by Wednesday. Mr D’Aloia and Ms Matrenza have forms in their classrooms. This incredible small group program will start as soon as groups are set up. Please contact me if you need any information or have any questions before then.
Year Six started Council Groups today. Mr Scutti and the Environment Council were a great help in Siena cleaning out their pond area. Ms Rees and the Pastoral Group are preparing a whole school paper plane comp at lunchtime in week six and the Christian Service Group started getting organised to fill our local Vinnies Pantry. Vinnies are particularly in need of canned fish and meat, coffee, tea, vegemite and jam and your child can deliver these to their classroom before Friday 15th March, we would be most grateful. Our Community Service Group had a blast helping our amazing teachers in the classrooms.
Thank you to all students, staff and our community for your support of these invaluable programs here at Holy Rosary!
