Benefit Night raises $60K for Maple Lawn teacher
The 16th Annual Benefit Night Talent Show and Dinner Auction was a success, raising about $60,000 for the event’s beneficiary Seah Eggum, a longtime Maple Lawn Elementary teacher who has stage 4 metastatic cancer.
More than 750 people attended the two-day event held March 23 and 24, which featured 43 performers in the Talent Show and 104 items for the Dinner Auction. The Bonney Lake High School culinary arts team took home first place at the Culinary Arts State Championship in Spokane on March 26. They competed against five other schools across the state.
Students Lucy M., Mallory M., Alika A., Grace F., and Luke M. served up this mouthwatering menu:
- Starter: Pan-seared Alaskan halibut served over forbidden rice, topped with beurre blanc and microgreens
- Entree: Pan-seared, butter-basted, dry-aged beef tenderloin with pureed butternut squash, purple mashed potatoes and steamed vegetables
- Dessert: Gold-dusted chocolate bombe filled with raspberry mousse, passion fruit panna cotta, and chocolate ganache
If you think that’s impressive, they also had only 60 minutes to do it all, without electricity or running water. They rely on propane stoves, hand-cranked blenders and ice cream machines. Read more about the competition.
The win gives BLHS the opportunity to compete in the National ProStart Invitational in Washington, D.C. in May. The national competition returns this year after a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
