1/18 CONSCIOUS DISCIPLINE PARENT SESSION
1/19 PACK MOVIE NIGHT
1/23 TITLE I - K/1 FAMILY NIGHT
2/1 - 2/2 NO SCHOOL FOR STUDENTS - GRADING DAY
Dear Chávez Families,
I hope that this newsletter finds you well and warm on this wintery day. The winter weather has arrived and will get more severe this weekend according to the forecast. Please see the information below about how you will be notified about school closures or delays and be safe out there when hazardous weather arrives.
This was another week of fantastic learning at Chávez Elementary, with classes learning about the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., showing us how much they know and can do on winter benchmark assessments, learning about the Apollo 13 mission, fractions and creative writing. Add in some art, music and science and you'll have an idea of the busy days we have here at school!
Something that I love about Chávez is that staff greet kids at every door as we welcome kids to school. From the unloading of the first bus and the stream of cars, kids on bikes and families strolling to school, students are met with welcoming staff at the curb, at the doors to the cafeteria, as they enter the gym and then flow down the halls to classrooms at the first bell. At each classroom, in every grade, teachers meet and greet kids, give a fist bump or a high five and help them settle in to begin their day.
These greetings and the positive energy at the start of the day help to set all our students up for success and have them feeling seen, valued and like they belong.
Please read on for news you can use and thanks for supporting us while we support our kiddos.
With Gratitude,
Principal Kevin
INCLEMENT WEATHER - BE PREPARED
Winter Weather is Here!
Winter is here and with the colder weather comes potential snow and ice. There are several ways to find out when hazardous weather conditions close or delay schools or alter bus routes.
How to find out if there is a change:
- Check the district website, www.4j.lane.edu
- Follow 4J social media: Facebook, X @4Jweather & @4Jschools
- Tune in to local radio and television news stations
- Text message from the district (If you are concerned about the weather and have not received a text by 6:30 a.m., check the 4J website, Facebook page, radio or TV.)
No news = no change. School closures and other changes are decided early in the morning and announced by all of these methods before 6:30 a. M. If schools and buses are on their regular schedules, there will not be an announcement.
