Straight from the Hardt
Hello Ridgeline Families—
I announced to the students and staff this morning that I’m kind of bummed out that we’re going on spring break next week. I just feel like we’re on such a positive ROLL right now, I didn’t want it to stop! OK, so I may have gotten a few booooos over that comment!
This past month has provided experiences for our students (and really all of us) that we haven’t had up to this point. When mask mandates were finally lifted and we were able to have more social activities, it has changed everything…for the better! Our dance a week ago, followed up yesterday with our ALL-School assembly and class competition was so refreshing. You can not put a price tag on the value of laughter, smiles, and enjoying shared experiences. The world often thinks our students just lost the academic focus during the pandemic, but the millions of smiles and laughs that were missed were equally important. I know all parents saw and understood that. If you were like me, my parenting style changed during the pandemic just like many other things. Anyways, my point is how happy I am for our students and staff to be able to fully appreciate our time together each day. Each new memory and moment is critical to the foundational culture we strive to develop at Ridgeline. I often reflect on the fact that a year ago, there was so much uncertainty, and RHS was just a building you could see from the road, and no one knew where we would be as a high school last fall. Ridgeline is on the map people! RHS is a fully operational facility to serve students and provide an environment that’s safe, welcoming, and a place you want to be!
Enjoy the highlights in today’s newsletter, and make it a great spring break! Feeling Grateful--Mr. Hardt

Falcon Wings designed by Callen Johnson
I had signed up to be a TA for Mr. Dailey’s 6th period class, but a few weeks in, there wasn't much left for me to help out with.
Mr. Dailey came up with the idea of having me create some falcon-themed decorations to go up in the counseling center on the walls, and I started on that project.
But then he came up with another idea. His idea was to create a pair of life size falcon wings, and mount them on the wall for people to take pictures in front of. That was the beginning of the project, and after months of modeling, laser cutting, gluing, staining, and sanding, they were finally complete.

Ridgeline HS Orchestra and Band Thrive at Northeast Music Educators Music Educators Large Group Festival
Students of the Ridgeline HS Eyas Orchestra and Wind Ensemble were adjudicated by music teachers and professors from several public schools across the state, WWU, Pierce College, PLU, Whitworth and EWU. Both bands received highest marks of SUPERIOR in our region which includes all schools in Spokane County, minus Mead SD and SPS.
This is an awesome honor. Our students also were amazing hosts for this event as it featured over 1,600 band and orchestra students in our building over five days. Ridgeline music students volunteered as guides for teachers as they brought their students in to our facilities, they worked audio recording equipment, the worked as stage hands setting up over 100 unique seating arrangements for each school and each grade level, they worked the front desk to manage getting materials to the judges, and they helped run timing so the schedule could stay 100% on time.
A special recognition to junior clarinet student Sophia Jensen for being the Festival Manager. Every teacher’s first interaction when they arrived was with Sophia. She was the perfect ambassador for Ridgeline High School. Congrats to our music department for their very BIG accomplishments in both excellence on stage and graciousness off of it. Thank you.
Ridgeline HS Jazz Orchestra Scores BIG at Mead Jazz Festival
The Ridgeline HS Jazz Orchestra competed at the esteemed Mead Jazz Festival on March 26th at Mead High School. Bands from across the state competed for a spot in final, for their various classifications. Not only was Ridgeline HS selected as a finalist, they took home 2nd place in their division. Shadle Park HS was the division winner while Ridgeline stayed ahead of Mercer Island HS. We are so proud of these amazing musicians. Two students were recognized as outstanding soloists across the competition. Owen Haines, junior trombonist and Joshua Parker, freshman trumpeter. Josh was also selected as a University of Montana Scholarship Recipient for their Summer Jazz Workshop. Congrats to the whole jazz team for supporting each other in your musical endeavors.

First Aid & CPR Certification training in Principles of Biomedical Science class
Using the knowledge and skills they acquired through their First Aid and CPR certification training, students in Principles of Biomedical Science class try to “stop the bleed” on an artificial arm! Throughout the unit students learned to administer basic first aid, use tourniquets, and conduct CPR. A big thanks to Marcy Morrison, veteran paramedic for Deer Park Ambulance and EMT instructor at SVT for providing the certification to our students.
Students in Intro to Food Production
Students in Intro to Food Production have spent the past 2 weeks making yeast breads. Students first participated in the Bake for Good project using supplies donated by King Arthur Baking Company.
They make 17 basic or braided loaves that were donated to community members, then made bread knots to enjoy in class. This week students made cinnamon rolls!

From the Attendance Desk
Reminder- School starts at 7:45am Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. School starts at 8:15am on Thursday. We are starting to see more and more students arriving to school at or after the posted start time. This is causing students to be late to 1st period. It's really important that whether a student drives to school or is dropped off, they arrive with enough time to be in class and ready to go at 7:45 (M,T,W,F) or 8:15 (Th) depending on the day. Please talk with your students about the importance of being to school and classes on time.
If your student is absent from school please call our attendance line at 509-558-3801 to excuse their absence.
