Happy New Year! 2024

With this prolonged fall-like weather, it may be strange to start thinking ahead toward the end of the year and graduation. However, for the parents of a senior, the change in the calendar marks the beginning of the downhill run! I can think back to when I did the math and calculated what year my own daughters would graduate. Now that the actual year has arrived, I hope you can feel the excitement building. For parents of underclass students, your time will be here sooner than you think.

There has been so much positivity and accomplishment in the building during first semester. As we approach finals week, please check in with your student(s) to make sure they are preparing the best way they can for the end of one semester and the beginning of another. We always encourage rest, relaxion, proper nutrition, and mental/physical exercise. And please remind them that our teachers and support staff are here to help them with any needs they may have.

Weather Cancellation Information

WEATHER RELATED CLOSING AND/OR DELAY INFORMATION

The Hastings Public Schools website is the fastest and most accurate to find out if the district has closed or delayed their start time. This is the first place where this information will appear once determination has been made. By checking the web you can avoid missing our school district listing while watching the television or having to flip through channels because you see Hastings Public Schools listed on one channel but not on another. In addition, we will continue, as always, to have our closing information announced on KDWA Radio, 1460 AM and Channels 4, 5, 9 and 11.

When school is canceled for any reason:

The first weather-related day will be just a weather cancellation (not an e-learning day).
After the first weather day, all other days will be e-learning days. Students and families will be communicated with and the day will be either asynchronous or synchronous.

We are so fortunate to have these wonderful people here at HHS. The care and compassion shown to your students on a daily basis is nothing short of amazing. Students utilize their talents for a wide variety of reasons. Whether it's for college and career advice, to discuss a course change, or to confide in a trusted adult about a difficult situation, these four are key pieces of the foundation of our school culture. The counseling office serviced over 5,900 individual visits last year alone. They are also available to work with parents as you navigate the high school experience with your student. Don't hesitate to reach out!

ADVISORY OLYMPICS

If your student hasn't mentioned this to you yet, ask them how their advisory is doing in our 2nd annual Advisory Olympic competition. These fun events have been instrumental in building community at the high school. And to let you in on a little secret...the staff have just as much fun as the students. Here are just a few of the things we've done so far:
