School Calendar Change

The Massac Unit #1 SD Calendar was updated last week. There were 3 student attendance days changed from 3:00 p.m. dismissal to 11:30 a.m. dismissals. The first student 11:30 a.m. dismissal will be November 19th. Please check the massac.org website for future calendar updates.

Veteran's Day Music Program

We will be having our annual Veteran's Day Music Program this year; however, the format will be different. We will not be having parents/spectators attend the event this year. Instead, we will broadcast it live through the Franklin Elementary School Facebook Page. The event will be live on Wednesday, November 3, 2021 at 1:30 p.m. Additional information will be sent home with students.

Progress Reports

The second mid-nine weeks grading period ends on November 15th. Work that is not completed at that time will reflect a zero in the grade book. Second mid-nine weeks reports will be emailed Wednesday, November 17th.

Snack Cart

We will continue having Snack Cart on Friday afternoons. This is a Friday afternoon activity that has been a tradition at Franklin for many years. The kids look forward to it all week long.

  • Students are allowed to bring money to purchase items from the cart.
  • Most items are $1 each.

Apples For The Students Program

Metropolis Big Johns is once again participating in the Apples for the Students program. We are so excited to have this opportunity each year to earn FREE educational equipment for our school! All you need to do is drop your register receipt into the Franklin Elementary box as you exit Big Johns. Thank you for always supporting Franklin students!

Kinsa FLUency Program

Our school has been selected for the Kinsa FLUency school health program. When families complete the registration process, they will receive a FREE thermometer. Visit kinsa.school/signup to fill our the order form. Thermometers will be shipped to school and distributed to students.


  • Deadline for next thermometer shipment is November 28th.

Our school embraces the Character Counts Character Education program. Each month our school will focus on one of these traits, providing class lessons and discussion, relating the traits to literature, and recognizing when students make good choices and demonstrate these positive traits.
