Principal's Message 5.26.22
Enjoy your long Memorial Day weekend.
Teachers will be working hard tomorrow to complete report cards to accurately communicate your child's proficiency at our essential academic and behavior standards. Report cards will be visible on ParentVUE beginning on June 13 at 4pm, as we still have more teaching, learning, assessing, and celebrating learning to do between now and then.
This week during your child's regular library time, they will have an opportunity to go 'shopping' for some books to bring home to read and keep. As we make room for our new Language Arts curriculum, we want to move extra copies of high interest texts into the hands and minds of readers. Happy reading!
On Monday we enjoyed the talent show. All these kiddos demonstrated their talents and bravery to perform in front of our whole school community. I included the program with all performers' names, the order of acts, and the timestamps for each performance here. Enjoy watching them in the link below!
Be well,
Principal Jennie Knapp

We are wrapping up a wonderful year of library time at Lake Grove. It has been so lovely to read to the students and have them in the library looking for books each week. As the end of the school year approaches it is time to return all library books back to Lake Grove. Please return ALL library books by Wednesday June 1st.
i-Ready Spring Assessment
Soon, elementary students in Lake Oswego will complete two online i-Ready assessments in class. One is for math and the other is for reading. As you know, i-Ready is a program that helps us determine your child’s strengths and areas for future growth. This is the third of three i-Ready diagnostic assessments we give each year, and the results will be shared with parents before the summer break. For kindergartners, this will be their second i-Ready assessment.

State Assessment Score Reports
This summer, LOSD will deliver students’ state assessment results online through ParentVUE rather than mailing paper. This is in keeping with the district’s strategic goal of sustainability and mirrors how we deliver report cards. Your child’s assessment reports will appear on your ParentVUE Documents page in late July. As you review your student’s English Language Arts, math, and science scores, please keep in mind:
- An achievement level of 3 or 4 is considered to be on track for the student’s grade level.
- Scores on state assessments are only one measure of a student’s academic progress. We use these scores in conjunction with classroom work and other daily, weekly, monthly, and term assessments to understand your student’s strengths and areas for improvement.
Time to Verify Your Student's Information
Beginning April 29, LOSD needs parents/guardians of all students enrolled for the 2022-23 school year to log into ParentVUE and review/update your students' information through the Register/Verify tab. This benefits both families and schools by:
- Ensuring that schools have accurate information to reach parents and other contacts in both emergency and non-emergency situations. Verification is important even if your address or contact information has not changed over the past year because the school may have incorrect information from a previous year.
- Confirming parent email addresses for Google Classroom and other applications to participate in your student's learning.
- Enabling distribution of key information in the district's K-12 Family Handbook.
SAVE THE DATE: Smart Start Thursday, Aug. 25, 1-3 p.m.
Smart Start is an opportunity specifically for our students with 504s and IEPs, and their parents and guardians, to make introductions and connect with their teachers and to feel prepared and welcomed for the start of school. For the 2022-23 School Year, Smart Start is in person Aug. 25, 2022, from 1-3 p.m.
Teachers will be familiar with your student’s plan and accommodations. To help get to know your students, please complete the attached one-page profile or create one on your own ahead of time, and give it to the teacher at the Smart Start introduction.

Attention 5th Grade Families
The end of year is fast approaching and we have many fun things planned for your 5th grader.
June 9th 10-1:45: Oaks Park Outing
We will be traveling by bus to Oaks Park on Thursday, June 9th. Students will receive a wristband which gives them access to all the rides at Oaks Park. Pizza lunch will be provided. We ask that students wear their Lake Grove T-shirt from the walk-a-thon.
If you have not filled in the google form please do so as soon as possible. We currently need more chaperons. Please reach out to your child's teacher if you indicated that you are a maybe and want to switch to a yes and come along with our class.
Students should also return a paper copy of the permission slip by Friday, May 27th. Each child needs a signed copy to attend the field trip.
June 10th Clap Out 10:30: Lake Grove Undercover
On the last day of school the 5th graders will walk through the hallways and out the back of the school to the applause of all the students and staff members. Parents and Guardians are invited to meet their 5th grader undercover. Please arrive at 10:30. Parking may be tricky so plan accordingly.
We look forward to celebrating our 5th graders as they head off to middle school.
Safe Oregon
Parents-guardians who have concerns about a student’s well-being are encouraged to reach out to their principal, and to maintain strong lines of communication and partnership between students, families, staff, and other resources.
SafeOregon is also an effective way to report a tip regarding safety threats or potential acts of violence to our students or schools.
(Students should also be aware that intentionally providing a false report is a serious offense.)
Lake Grove Elementary
At Lake Grove, we are an inclusive school community fostering social, emotional, and academic growth for all students.
