TIGER TALES

Did you know you can now translate Tiger Tales? From your computer, you may use the "Accessibility" function (on the right) to translate Tiger Tales into a variety of languages. From your phone, look for the silhouette icon in the lower right corner. For old eyes like mine, you can also change contrast settings and increase font size!
Hello Tigers!
As we look to the hopes and dreams of any new year, my prayer is that 2021 brings an opportunity for renewal to your heart, mind, body and soul. Certainly, our world is not without a level of turmoil, but when has it ever been? Times of overwhelm provide a wonderful opportunity for introspection, knowing we are best suited to understand and change the world around us when we operate with our cups full and our houses in order. To this end, I wish you never go thirsty...CHEERS!
With the coming week, let us not forget the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. and his dream...
- This nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal...
- One day on the red hills of Georgia, the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood...
- That my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character...
- Little black boys and black girls will be able to join hands with little white boys and white girls as sisters and brothers...
- Every valley shall be exalted, every hill and mountain shall be made low, the rough places will be made plain, and the crooked places will be made straight, and the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together...
- With this faith, we will be able to hew out of the mountain of despair a stone of hope. With this faith we will be able to transform the jangling discords of our nation into a beautiful symphony of brotherhood. With this faith we will be able to work together, to pray together, to struggle together, to go to jail together, to stand up for freedom together, knowing that we will be free one day...
- When all of God's children will be able to sing with new meaning: My country, 'tis of thee, sweet land of liberty, of thee I sing. Land where my fathers died, land of the pilgrims' pride, from every mountainside, let freedom ring...
- And when we allow freedom ring, when we let it ring from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of God's children, black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old Negro spiritual: Free at last. Free at last. Thank God almighty, we are free at last.
May you have a wonderful weekend!
My best,
Brian

NO SCHOOL: Monday, January 18
While there will be NO SCHOOL MONDAY, JANUARY 18.
MLK Day is the only federal holiday designated as a national day of service to encourage all Americans to volunteer to improve their communities. While volunteer activities may be a little different in the midst of a pandemic, there are still many ways to involve yourself and others in honoring the holiday and Dr. King’s legacy.
Please reference the following links for things to do or learn on Monday!
THIS WEDNESDAY - Synchronous Instructional Day
Please note this Wednesday, January 20 is a synchronous instructional day.
There will be (2) additional Wednesdays within the school year that will follow the same process due to holidays, professional development days, grading days, etc. Mark your calendar:

Return to School: PART 1
On Tuesday, December 23, Governor Kate Brown issued a letter to the directors of the Oregon Health Authority (OHA) and Oregon Department of Education (ODE) stating that as of Friday, January 1, 2021, the health metrics guiding schools’ return to in-person learning should be considered advisory rather than mandatory. She also called for five specific actions from the agencies:
- Continue collaborating with school districts to coordinate the return to in-person learning as soon as possible, prioritizing elementary students.
- In conjunction with a prioritization of educators and school staff for the COVID-19 vaccine, the OHA is to partner with schools to access on-site, rapid testing.
- In addition to school districts continuing to adhere to required health and safety protocols and working in close consultation with their local health authority, they are also to involve teachers, school staff, students, and parents in the decision-making process for returning to in-person learning.
- Review and provide any needed updates, based on scientific data and evidence, to the appropriate thresholds for the return to in-person learning by January 19.
- Collaborate on the alignment of Ready Schools, Safe Learners guidance and Oregon OSHA rules to ensure all necessary health and safety procedures and protocols are included to allow maximum access to in-person instruction in keeping with reasonable health and safety standards.
Return to School: PART 2
- We are waiting for updated guidance from the state on January 19
- There is no current timeline for return
- Pre-K - Second Grades will be the primary focus for a return
- It is expected grades 3-5 will be included incrementally
- Current guidelines necessitate secondary students to remain in Comprehensive Distance Learning (CDL)
- Elementary students will return in a half-day (AM/PM) hybrid model - every child will attend in-person Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday
- Wednesday will remain a digital learning day
- It is the expectation that students will engage in a full day of learning, Monday-Friday; when not physically at school, students will be engaged online
- Families will be asked to choose to remain in CDL or move to hybrid
- Teacher reassignment is possible to accommodate student numbers in CDL vs. hybrid
There are still many questions without answers, but hope January 19 will allow this process to move forward with a sense of expediency. We greatly appreciate your patience, understanding, and perseverance as we have navigated these incredibly challenging times together.
OHA LAUNCHES TWO NEW DATA DASHBOARDS
Recently, the Oregon Health Authority (OHA) added two new data dashboards to share information about COVID-19 and vaccinations across the state and by county.
The COVID-19 dashboard compiles COVID-19 cases and other data in a single, interactive format. The dashboard includes new cases, seven-day daily averages of cases, patients with COVID-19 who are currently hospitalized, test results reported, and new deaths. The dashboard is updated Monday through Friday.
Information in the dashboard comes from existing data. One of the features of the dashboard is a graph that shows the number of new cases by the date they are reported to a public health authority, along with the seven-day daily average of cases. These numbers align with the number of new cases reported in OHA’s daily press release and Daily Update.
The vaccine dashboard shows the status of the state’s COVID-19 vaccination effort. The dashboard provides daily updates on the number of people partially and fully vaccinated, along with key demographic information showing race, ethnicity, sex and age of everyone immunized.

REMINDER: Device Insurance
As you might expect, a large-scale distribution of devices will lead to inadvertent damage from time to time. As communicated earlier in the year, the Beaverton School District added a fee of $20 to students’ Online Payment accounts (maximum fee of $60 per family per school year) to enroll them in the Damage-Loss Protection Program. This fee is waived for families who qualify for the free or reduced-price meal benefits program and have completed the Permission to Share form.
Students need to pay the assigned fee prior to any damage or loss claims to be eligible for the Protection Program coverage.
Families may choose to decline coverage. However, doing so isn't recommended, because a family would then assume full responsibility for any costs due to damage, loss or theft. These costs could be as much as $300 per incident, regardless of how the damage occurs. Visit the Student Device Resources webpage for more information.
- To access the online payment system, you will need an active ParentVUE account. If you do not have a ParentVUE account, contact your school for an Activation Key code. Once the ParentVUE account is created, it may take up to 24 hours for the Online Payment System account to be activated. For more information on ParentVue, please visit the ParentVUE/StudentVUE page.
- To pay for device insurance, you may use a Visa, Discover, or Mastercard (debit or credit card), and make a secure online payment for your student with no transaction fees. You can access the online payment system at https://or-beaverton.intouchreceipting.com. in addition to device insurance, you may pay additional student fees for lost library books, or make donations to school-based programs and activities.
- If you did not select the permission to share option when applying for Free and Reduce Meals, you need to show the office staff your meals benefit letter indicating that you qualify for free or reduced meals. If you have payment questions, please see the school secretaries.

- Tuesdays - 10:30a - 12:30p
- Thursdays - 10:30a - 12:30p
This is also a great time to pick up meals, 11:00a-12:00p

- 1:45 - 2:10 - 11606 SW Center Street @ LynnMarie Apartments

Both the curbside library and book bus will have books for all readers. However, they may also request books in advance.
How do students request books?
- Browse the Raleigh Park Library collection and place a hold on books for your children. The only information you need is a 1) student ID number and 2) password. For more information on how to place holds, please view, Placing a Hold on a Book from Your Library.
- Email Mrs. Lowe, Raleigh Park Library Media Assistant (LMA) with a title or subject, Judy_Lowe@beaverton.k12.or.us
How do students know when to pick up their books?
- When a book is available for a student, we will email parents/guardians to let you know when the book will be ready for curbside or book bus pick up. Please email Judy_Lowe@beaverton.k12.or.us with additional questions.
Recommendations?
- Email Mrs. Lowe, and she can share some thoughts and recommendations!
How do students return library books?
- Bring books back to Raleigh Park during the curbside or book bus hours and leave them in the labelled bin. Books will be in quarantine for 1 week, so there will be a delay in checking the books back in the library.
