Winding Down into Winter Break
Just like that, we're a week away from Winter Break. These three weeks between breaks offer a final opportunity to sum up all the learning that's taken place over the course of the first trimester and prepare for launching into the new year.
On the minimum day, Tuesday, a handful of our Falcon student leaders gathered with our teaching team to begin the process of reimagining our school's mission statement. We learned a meaningful mission statement has three important features: 1.) Expresses our Purpose [Why do we exist? What purpose do we serve?] 2.) Includes everyone's input, 3.) Uses concrete language. At our next coffee with the Principal, we'll build on our students' and teams' ideas to include family input as well.
Next week is SPIRIT WEEK! Students are encouraged to have fun with their outfits in the final few days before Winter Break.
Monday - Mismatch Monday (wear mismatching clothes)
Tuesday - Twinsie Tuesday (pick a friend or two or three or more and all wear the same or similar outfits)
Wednesday - For the Win Wednesday (wear your favorite team's gear and represent!)
Thursday - Thirsty for Success Thursday (dress like the professional career you aspire to become)
Friday - Falcon Friday with PJ's (wear your Falcon Spirit and/or PJ's to school)
Lastly, it is our privilege to officially announce the hiring of Mrs. Shelley Grosse as our newest teacher. Mrs. Grosse will be teaching 4th grade which will significantly reduce class size in our upper grades. Mrs. Grosse brings over 15 years of elementary teaching experience in Cajon Valley, Del Mar, and Poway. While in Del Mar, she was also the Lead ELPAC Examiner for the district. More to come in next week's Flyer!
Student of the Week
This week's Student of the Week is Presley in Mr. León's class. Presley is a remarkable student who always displays a positive attitude towards learning. He has improved his reading level F&P from Q to S, quickly approaching his 5th grade reading level. Presley loves coding and hands-on activities. He has created amazing digital and 3D paper artwork.
In addition, Presley is a great helper in and outside the classroom. He continuously volunteers to clean up the cafeteria seating area just after finishing his lunch. We all love Presley's enthusiasm and kindness. He sets the example of how great a Fletcher Falcon student can be. Well done, Presley! Thanks for exemplifying what it means to be a leader at Fletcher Elementary School!
