Math Counts Competition
Four mathletes on Buffett's Math Counts Competition Team competed in a virtual math competition on February 17. The team was led by Coach Richards and Coach Kimball. They practiced throughout the winter months in preparation for the contest.
MATHCOUNTS provides engaging math programs to US middle school students of all ability levels to build confidence and improve attitudes about math and problem solving. The MATHCOUNTS Foundation is a non-profit organization that reaches students in grades 6-8 in all US states and territories with three extracurricular math programs. Hundreds of thousands of students participate in our programs or use our resources each year.
Most years, the competition is held in-person. This year the MATHCOUNTS board of directors decided early on in the school year to keep this portion of the contest virtual.
Buffett's mathletes dedicated the end of the school day on February 17th to the chapter competition. The top students from the chapters move onto the state contest. Hamdoul E., Nick K., Carter T., and Rowan H. worked through problems during a team round of questions and then completed the individual rounds. Hamdoul and Nick placed in the top 25% in the Eastern Chapter! They were up against schools from Millard, Elkhorn, Fremont, Blair, Westside, Papillion, and various parochial schools.
We are so proud of our mathletes and their love of math. They used their math skills along with perseverance to overcome the math challenges they faced during the chapter competition. They showed how Being Hardworking can expand their experiences in math.
