Beginning with our Spring Sports Athletic Team, CHS will participate in the Lead 'Em Up program. Lead ‘Em Up is a dynamic and engaging leadership program used by youth, high school, and college sports teams all over the country. Students and coaches will engage in a full library of leadership and communication exercises online that they can use to develop players into the leaders needed to win. We are excited to begin and bring this experience to our students. Check out more about Lead 'Em Up.

CHS is excited to offer several *NEW* Social Studies electives and is looking to increase enrollment!

Attention Clarksburg families participating in the upcoming SAT School Day on Wednesday, March 22nd:

As we get closer to the exam date we wanted to share with you pertinent information regarding how the SAT will be run on March 22nd and how you can prepare.

• SAT exams are scheduled to start at 7:45 AM.

• Students are expected to arrive on time to the school building by 7:30am

• Students who are NOT participating in SAT or Mock AP Testing have the option to stay home during the morning testing session on this day. Students who choose to come to school that day will need to remain on campus unless they are signed out by a parent or caregiver. Read more HERE.

The Jumpstart dual enrollment program allows qualified 11th- and 12th-grade MCPS students to take college classes for credit through Montgomery College. These classes will be offered at no cost beginning with the 2023-24 school year. CHS families are invited to an informational webinar about the program on Thursday, March 23rd, at 6 PM. The login information is HERE. Students are encouraged to attend lunchtime information sessions about the program on Monday, March 20th, or Tuesday, March 21st, in Room 103. Registration for the Fall semester begins next month. Students can see our Dual Enrollment Program Assistant, Mrs. Jennifer MacDonald, in Room 247 if they have questions.

CHS encourages 11th grade students to attend the NACAC College Fair. MCPS and the National Association for College Admissions Counseling (NACAC) will hold an annual junior college fair on Wednesday, April 19th, beginning at 10:00 am. There will be over 300 colleges in attendance. A $5.00 fee is required to attend. The permission forms can be found here. Students are not permitted to drive themselves to the college fair. Parents/guardians who wish to attend the fair with their students should attend the evening session on April 18th. During the evening, there will be two workshops on Financing College and Simple Steps to Applying to College. Register here.

The Montgomery County Vision Zero Youth Ambassador program would like to include CHS in a survey of transportation safety to and from school.

This survey is meant to gauge the safety of middle and high school students' routes to and from school and their awareness of road safety. Their goal is to provide recommendations to the county's transportation department to help make roads safer for our community. Students that participate in the survey also have the opportunity to be entered into a raffle to win one of four $25 Visa gift cards.

The Maryland Report Card website provides information on a wide variety of measures including enrollment, attendance, performance reporting on state assessments, performance on college readiness assessments, and postsecondary enrollment in colleges. • What is the schedule for SAT school day?
• SAT exams are scheduled to start at 7:45 AM.

• How do I know where I will be testing?
• Posters will be hung throughout the school for students to identify their testing rooms in advance. Students can also locate their testing locations here.

• Will breakfast and lunch be served?
• Breakfast will be available starting at 7:25 am. Students can stop off and grab breakfast before heading to their testing location. Testing begins at 7:45 am.
• Lunch will be served after testing which can take up to 4 hours or more so please plan accordingly and consider bringing snacks and water
• Students in accommodated rooms must wait until their test is over to eat lunch. This may not occur until 1 PM. Please plan to bring a snack to eat during testing breaks.

• What should I bring on the day of the test?
• Students should bring two No. 2 pencils with erasers, an acceptable calculator, a refillable water bottle, snacks and drinks, and extra batteries or a back-up calculator
• No IDs are required at this time
• Calculators will not be available for distribution on the day of the test.
• Students should bring their Chromebooks and what other materials they might need for after testing in a backpack for use in the afternoon.

• What is prohibited in testing?
• Electronic devices, including cell phones and wearable smart technology, are not allowed.
• If you bring your devices you will be directed to completely power off your device and store it in your book bag.
• If you don’t bring a book bag the testing administrator will collect and store all devices safely until testing is complete
• Per College Board: Once the warning script has been read, if a prohibited device is seen in a student’s possession, regardless of whether it’s making a noise, the test coordinator will dismiss the student and confiscate the device.

• Is there anything to do prior to testing?
• Students and parents are encouraged to read over the SAT consent form letter and determine whether they want to opt in. Should you decide to utilize the service provided by the College Board there is a form we need signed and returned that is listed in the letter. Students can submit the form online using myMCPS classroom by following this link. Or students can submit a printed and signed version to Room 157 either before school or during lunch. All Questionnaire forms are due back by March 10th.

All MCPS students have access to free, virtual tutoring services through FEV Tutor and Tutor Me Education.

• Both companies offer two services:

• Free on-demand tutoring for homework help, no scheduling needed

• Free, scheduled tutoring for on-going support, scheduling required

• Both companies record sessions, take session notes, and communicate directly with families

• The difference between the two companies:

• FEV Tutor - no camera for tutor or student - ideal for grades 3-12 students for whom the camera is a barrier to learning

• The County Executive’s proposed budget, released in March 2022, included funds for 1 Full time Mental Health Specialist and 1 Full time Care Manager at 10 priority High Schools (without Wellness Centers).

• County Council expanded the support to all High Schools and added funding for a Positive Youth Development position at each school and additional PYD-SON staff to support each school (SON - Street Outreach Network).

• The appropriation of these funds was approved in late May 2022

• DHHS expanded the scope of the existing School and Community Youth Services (SCYS) contract to add these additional services and schools

• SCYS contractors EveryMind, Sheppard Pratt, and YMCA-Youth & Family Services had already been providing therapy and mental health promotion and prevention services in some of the High Schools under the existing contract

• Final approval for this expansion was received on August 4, 2022

• HHS PYD expanded current Youth Opportunity Contracts (managed by Identity) to expand PYD services in the following schools:

• BCC, Clarksburg, Einstein, Magruder, Springbrook, Quince Orchard, Richard Montgomery, and Rockville

• All Identity PYD staff are hired for each school (Youth Development Specialist)

• DHHS expanded the scope of the existing Youth Opportunity Center contract with Identity for the Youth Development Specialist positions at 8 of the High Schools

• SON continues to provide Crisis Intervention services at request of MCPS in the aftermath of acts of violence either in the community or the school community.

• All of SON services will utilize the shared PYD space at every school it currently provides services as well at the upcoming school sites once new staff are hired.

• HHS PYD staff will provide ongoing inservice training to all PYD Providers to include the following: Joven Noble Curriculum in December, HHS PYD a youth engagement training, and Professional Community Intervention Training Institute.

MySchoolBucks: Use MySchoolBucks to add school meal money to your child’s account. This will eliminate the need for your child to bring money to school every day. This year, meals (lunch and breakfast) will not be universally free. If your student wants to buy lunch in school, they will need a MySchoolBucks account. Families who believe they qualify for free and reduced-price meals can apply here.

Sign Up For ParentVUE to Stay in Touch With Your School
Families new to MCPS are encouraged to sign up for a ParentVUE account at the beginning of the school year. ParentVUE is the online parent portal that serves as the primary communication vehicle for schools to share information regarding grades, attendance, scheduling, access to myMCPS Classroom and more.
ParentVUE provides a way to view school-related information and data for students. Register for athletics, special programs, communicate with teachers and verify your student information annually.
ParentVUE also allows access to Canvas/MyMCPSClassroom, a digital learning platform. Parents and guardians can view instructional information and resources, and get alerts about assignments and grades.

Please also make note of our school Dress Code by reviewing the link. A dress code encourages students to express their individuality through personality and academic achievements, not outward appearances. A dress code puts the focus on academics, not fashion, because it projects a neat, serious, school-minded image. Please check out our school spirit Clarksburg High School Online Sideline Store when you have an opportunity to purchase clothing, accessories, and everything C’Burg. We encourage school and team spiritwear purchases from our CHS Booster Club as well! They will sell clothing in person at various athletic events to include Back to School Night!

The George B. Thomas Sr. Learning Academy, Inc. is pleased to offer options for parents and students interested in additional academic support and/or acceleration on the 6th day of learning (Saturday mornings). Please allow our certified teachers to support our Clarksburg cluster students (elementary through high school).

The fee for the entire year of Saturday School remains the same at $40 for FARMS students and $85 for all others.

Each Saturday morning, there are motivational sessions that focus on mindfulness and wellness within each center. In addition, students will have two additional hours with the MCPS curriculum (Benchmarks and Eureka) for additional support or acceleration. Each center serves the entire cluster of schools, but students have the capability of attending the center of their choice or participating virtually.

MCPS has implemented a number of enhanced security measures at athletic events. The school district is committed to the safety and security of students, families and community members who want to enjoy various athletic contests, and will not tolerate the indefensible and violent behavior and actions that have occurred in the opening weeks of this fall season. These tiered actions have gone into effect at all high school games.

Academic success begins with excellent attendance. Therefore, special attention will be paid to the issue of attendance and punctuality. We expect every student to be in school every day except for the legitimate reasons defined by Maryland State law and listed below:

• Death in the immediate family

• Certified illness of the student

• Court summons

• Work or activity accepted by school authorities

• Observance of religious holiday

• Quarantine

• Physical and mental incapacity

• Violent storms

• State emergency
  

As we prepare for the start of school, we wanted to share some important information and updates on attendance procedures. This year we will be providing an online option for reporting student absences. Parents and/or Caregivers of students will use a google form to report a student absence and submit attendances notes. Upon completion of this form, the attendance secretary will review each submission and will follow up to confirm absence. The form can be located here as well as on the Clarksburg High School Website under Attendance Procedures.

This year we are focusing on Be Present 182, a charge to have all students in all classes on time every day.

In order to ensure a safe, productive, and positive learning environment, Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) publishes two documents that help students, parents, and staff and understand school rules and regulations; the expectations for student conduct; and the possible consequences for violating the rules.

A Student’s Guide to Rights and Responsibilities is an overview of the rights and responsibilities students enjoy in MCPS and a summary of the laws and regulations that affect students.

The MCPS Student Code of Conduct provides an overview of discipline procedures and protocols and the range of consequences students could face for violating various policies, regulations, and rules. The guide also discusses the MCPS philosophy to discipline and defines the various disciplinary responses.

Clarksburg High School opened its doors for the first time during the 2006-2007 academic year. A part of the Montgomery County Public Schools system, Clarksburg High School is located at 22500 Wims Road, Clarksburg, Maryland and serves a student population from Clarksburg, Germantown, Damascus, Boyds, and Gaithersburg, Maryland.
