Ms. Adamo's Counselor Corner
8th Grade Information:
If you haven't scheduled your child(ren)'s high school conference, HERE is the link to the SignUpGenius. These meetings will take place at CDW from January 31- February 6, 2024, between the hours of 8:40 AM - 3:00 PM. One counselor from Northern Valley Old Tappan will also be in attendance to answer any questions. You also should have received an email from NVOT with important information regarding registering your child(ren) for NVOT, which needed to be completed by January 15th. Failure to complete the registration information will result in your child not getting a schedule at NVOT.
On Friday, January 19th, Ms. Adamo met with the 8th graders to review their elective options. Students were given their elective reflection sheets to bring home to discuss with their parents/guardians. These sheets should be brought to their high school conference.
NVOT class recommendation letters were mailed out on January 19th. Should you have any questions regarding your child’s recommendation(s), please contact his/her teacher(s).
5th Grade Information:
On Monday, January 22, Ms. Adamo taught another Ignite Your Shine lesson with the fifth grade. This month’s lesson focused on “I” for Inspire. Using quotes for inspiration, students answered the following questions:
-What is the meaning behind the quote you chose?
-Why did you choose this quote?
-How will you use this to inspire or motivate you in your everyday life?
Be sure to ask your child(ren) to tell you about their quote and how/why it inspires them.
6th Grade Information:
On Thursday, January 25, Ms. Adamo taught another Conflict Resolution lesson. This month’s lesson focused on learning about the 5 Styles of Conflict Resolution. Students discovered which style they tend to use, and they discussed when it’s best to try a different style to resolve a conflict. Students were reminded that if a friend or peer asks them to stop doing something, they need to stop immediately, regardless if they were joking. Much of the conflict we see in middle school stems from students not listening when asked to stop doing a negative behavior. Often, this causes a back-and-forth resulting in both parties engaging in conflict that can turn into a bullying situation.
Reminders for All Grades:
Wellness Wednesday lunches:
Grades 5 and 6 lunch with Ms. Adamo is in room 414.
Grades 7 and 8 lunch with Dr. Polizotto is in room 308.
Should you have any questions or concerns regarding your child’s academic, social, or emotional needs, please contact me at adamoj@nvnet.org or 201-664-1475 ext. 2203.

Boys' Basketball
The boys defeated Closter on Wednesday, January 24th 62-40 and now move on to the championship game next week against Harrington Park. The boys broke away in the third quarter after being up only five points at halftime. Moose Etter led the way with 21 points. Jake Totten had 17 and also led a strong defensive effort in the second half that turned the game around. Kyle Gagliano added 9 points. Matt Kosmark, AJ Badurina, and Vincent Cialdella also played well in the win. Also to be recognized, is the unselfish play of Reese Yerman who helped set up one of the biggest reactions of the game when Paul Alzapiedi hit from downtown to close out the game. Thanks to all the students who were there to support the team.

Volunteers play a huge part in the PTO and what we are able to offer our students and teachers. Without volunteers, many of the programs that students, teachers, and families enjoy will not be able to happen. Volunteer descriptions can be found at: OTPTO.org under "More Info" and then "Flyers."
