Dear Meadow Glens Elementary School Families,

I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to you to express our heartfelt gratitude for the exceptional SOAR behavior displayed by our students during today’s Veteran's Day Celebration.

The event was a resounding success, as we came together to honor 26 attending veterans in a meaningful and touching manner. The students of our student council exhibited great leadership by leading the pledge, setting a tone of respect and patriotism for the entire gathering.

Additionally, the musical contributions were remarkable. A student from the band provided a poignant explanation of Taps, accompanied by Mr. Dethrow, our talented band teacher, who played Taps on the trumpet. Their performance added a solemn and moving touch to the ceremony.

Ms. Villaron' guidance during the singing of the “Patriotic Medley”, "My Country, 'Tis of Thee", and "Thank You Soldiers" brought a sense of unity and pride to the entire student body. The power of music to convey emotion and honor was truly evident.

Our 2nd-grade students poured their hearts into crafting letters of thanks to the veterans, demonstrating a depth of appreciation beyond their years. In addition, several 5th-grade students, with their thoughtfully composed poems, shared their unique and heartfelt expression of gratitude.

Special recognition goes to Mrs. Sagen for her role in handing out certificates of recognition to our deserving veterans, organizing the Wall of Honor, practicing with our student readers, organizing the Veteran’s coffee and breakfast, and preparing the program for our veteran guests. Your efforts in acknowledging their service added a personal touch to the day and made it even more special.

The Veteran's Day Celebration was a day filled with gratitude and honor, thanks to the exemplary behavior and contributions of our students. Staff at Meadow Glens helped to prepare the breakfast treats and coffee, the slide show with our honored veterans, and welcoming all in attendance on this special celebration. It is heartening to see our Meadow Glens community come together to express our appreciation for those who have served our country.

We extend our sincere thanks to all who participated and contributed to making this event a memorable and meaningful experience. Let us continue to foster an environment where such displays of respect, gratitude, and unity are not only celebrated on special occasions but become a part of our daily interactions.

There are new instructions up on our district website under the Infinite Campus Portal Document Library regarding the new way parents can view report cards. The instructions are in English, Spanish and Mandarin.

We are no longer utilizing the Student Document System. Instead, parents will now be able to view/print their students report card from their Campus Parent App.

Report cards will be live for parents to view/print on November 20th.

At this time of year, I think it is important to restate our policy related to cold weather and recess that is mentioned in the District 203 Parent Student Handbook. Children go outside for lunch recess every day that the wind chill temperature is above zero. Children are expected to be dressed for these cold temperatures (jacket, snow pants, boots, gloves, and scarf). Of course, if your child has a doctor’s note, we will follow those recommendations. Unfortunately we do not have the supervision to keep children indoors for reasons other than those listed on a doctor’s note.

Giftmart 2023 needs your help! Please consider donating a toy to assist under resourced families in District 203.

By invitation, parents and/or guardians are invited to the Giftmart Toy shop where they can purchase new toys for $2.00 per toy. 100% of the proceeds made from the sale of each toy will be donated back to each invited school to fund educational resources.

Please consider donating a new, unwrapped toy that is safe for children ages 3-12. No stuffed animals or board games, please. There will be a Giftmart Toy Box located inside of Ann Reid, Beebe, Ellsworth, Elmwood, Highlands, Kingsley, Maplebrook, Meadow Glen, Mill, Naper, Prairie, Ranch View, River Woods, Scott and Steepl Run Schools from November 6 – November 27th.
