The Orange Unified School District is committed to the safety and health of our students, staff, and community. We are closely monitoring the recommendations of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, California Department of Public Health, and the Orange County Health Agency in preventing the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
Out of an abundance of caution, and in partnership with Santiago Canyon College, we have decided to indefinitely postpone our Community Science Night scheduled for Friday, March 13. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Staff will be discussing the possibility of holding this event at a later time.
The robotics semi-finals that were to be held during Community Science Night are also being postponed. Educational Services is working on a plan of action to facilitate the semi-finals at the school site level. Specific details on this will be forthcoming.
As a reminder, the best way to reduce the risk of getting sick, as with seasonal colds and the flu, still applies to prevent COVID-19. The district continues to recommend the following daily actions / habits for our students and community:
- Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after you have been in a public place, or after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
- Avoid touching your face with unwashed hands.
- Stay home if you are sick. Anyone with a fever (>100.4 F / >38 C) should remain home from work/school and other activities until they have had no fever for 24 hours, without fever medication. Please follow your school’s procedures for reporting student absences.
- Minimize close contact such as handshaking and hugging.
- Remain diligent in your efforts to encourage good hygiene, and monitor for signs of illness, particularly with regard to early childhood education and medically fragile students.
