A Message from our STEAM Teachers...
Hello Families!
We're off to a great start in our STEAM classes this year! Students are already diving into some great projects, and we need your help! Our Maker Carts are always in need of some supplies to keep it stocked. While we have almost all of what the students need, there are some great additions and donations that we will gladly accept any time:
- empty toilet paper and paper towel rolls (We use SO many of these!)
- bottle caps
- buttons
- beads
- fabric scraps
- ribbon
- miscellaneous craft materials
- plastic recyclables (yogurt containers, medicine bottles, etc)
- anything else you think kids can be creative with!
Please send these items in at any time during the school year in a bag labeled STEAM. Your child can drop it off in our classroom or the office. Thank you so much for your help - we love seeing how creative our students can be!

Coming soon... Glow Week (10/26-10/31) in your child's STEAM Class

Don’t Scrap the App!
The Michigan School Meals program supplements the National School Lunch Program and the School Breakfast Program, meaning that parents of students who would otherwise be eligible for free or reduced meals should continue to submit applications for free or reduced meals for their students. Even though meals will be free this year, it is vitally important that parents who meet, or believe they may meet, the free and reduced income guidelines, submit an application to ensure maximum benefits for their students and the District.
Some of these benefits include: athletics and activities discounts for student fees associated with participating in athletics and activities programs, SAT/ACT/AP test discounts for academic testing, college application discounts for college application fees, discounted internet access services, federal/state/local school funding for school budgets, Summer EBT.

INVEST IN YOUR CHILD
Invest In Your Child is the primary fundraiser of the Silver Springs PTA where families simply make a one-time donation. Funds raised from IIYC cover most of the PTA expenses for the whole year!
Why do families love it?
• IIYC is back by popular demand because it is the easiest way to benefit our school and requires zero effort on your part.
• Since our PTA is a 501(c)(3), your donation is tax deductible!
• 100% of funds will benefit Silver Springs students, staff, and school. No third-party companies hogging fundraiser profits.
• PTA will not ask you to do more fundraising later in the year. No sales of candy, popcorn, or wrapping paper. No making your kid go door-to-door. No need to hit up friends and family for sponsorships.
• If families donate generously to IIYC, then PTA will be able to keep all the awesome programs and events going. It’s a one-and-done campaign.
Please donate here today or look for the flyer that will come home with your student the first week of school.
JOIN THE PTA!
The Silver Springs PTA wants YOU to become a member. Simply joining has a big impact – nothing more is required!
FACT: Joining the PTA does not obligate you to do ANYTHING. You don’t have to attend meetings, and you don’t have to volunteer… unless you want to! You get to decide how much to participate, a little, a lot, or not at all.
FACT: The PTA welcomes anyone and everyone (parents, guardians, grandparents and staff) to become members.
FACT: Simply joining and paying the membership fee helps the PTA accomplish goals and fund the programs we run all year.
What does the PTA do?
Silver Springs PTA is a non-profit, 501(c)(3), organization that enriches education, builds school community, plans fun events and supports teachers.
These are just a few of the awesome things the PTA does:

· Creates a student yearbook
· Creates and distributes a student directory to every student

LEADER IN ME FOCUS FOR THE MONTH - HABIT 1 BE PROACTIVE
Each month we will send home a 7-Habits activity for students and families to do together. The activity will come home in Monday envelopes and are due at the end of the month.
Please send the completed activities back to school so we can proudly display them in your child's classroom.
October At Home Activity
This month’s Habit: Habit 1 Be Proactive
Activity: You're in Charge
Due Date: October 31st
Habit 1 – Be Proactive – “I’m in Charge of Me”
What this means: Take charge of your own life. Make it happen. Don't wait for someone else to do it.
“I am responsible for me.”
“I do the right thing before I am asked.”
“I do the right thing even when no one is looking.”
“I do not blame others for my actions.”
How can I do this in my life?
1. If you do something wrong, say you are sorry before someone asks you to apologize.
2. When you get mad and want to say something, stop, think, and ask yourself-
Why am I getting so angry? Make a good choice in a good way.
