NB Friday Update
2023-2024 School Year
2/16/24
Happy Friday!
- Please be reminded that on Monday 2/19/24, schools are closed for Presidents' Day.
- See below for more information about the upcoming Book Fair (we need more volunteers!) and Science Fair.
- Please understand that smartwatches are considered an electronic device (similar to a cell phone) and are thus subject to Policy #5516, which states, " A student’s personal ECRD may only be used on school grounds in an emergency situation or before and after the school day or with the permission of a school staff member supervising the student in a curricular or school-sponsored extra-curricular activity." If your child attempts to contact you during the school day, please redirect them to the appropriate staff member (nurse, main office, teacher, etc). Likewise, if you need to communicate with your child, please go through the school so that students are not distracted by their devices throughout the day. There is a school setting on many smartwatches that allows parents to control the times that certain apps are available. Students are aware that if the smartwatches are being used for more than just keeping the time, they will be asked to put them in their backpacks. Thank you for your support with this issue!
- Please see below for important information and updates.
- Have a wonderful weekend!

Science Fair
Information has been sent home about the Science Fair for 2nd-5th graders. Please use this link to submit your project proposal (no paper forms this year). We can't wait to see all of our scientists on 3/15!
Scholastic Book Fair - 2/23-3/1
Here is the link to our school's book fair homepage with more information and the opportunity to use the eWallet. The Book Fair runs best with many parent volunteers - Please sign up here with as little or as much time you can give. Thank you!
Since we are at the halfway point of the year, we have reviewed attendance again and letters have gone out to alert you if your child is at 5 or 10+ tardies or absences. We understand that there are many illnesses going around that understandably keep children home, but we also want to encourage students to be in school all the days that they are healthy.
**I am aware that for some students who left early at some point, there was a miscalculation in Realtime. We are fixing the problem and the corrected letter will be accessible in your Realtime Parent Portal. I apologize for the inconvenience. Please contact Dr. Scillieri with any questions.**
Thank you for your assistance with attendance!

We are in the middle of winter and germs are spreading! Here are some links from NJDOH, CDC and KidsHealth to help you when your child is not feeling well. Please remember when reporting an absence, let us know the symptoms your child is exhibiting.
Let's hope the groundhog is correct this year and we are in for an early spring!!!!
