November Newsletter
Message from Mrs. Lockett
Dear Families,
Thank you so much for your continued support. Our October was very busy. The 100 year party was a hit-the rain can't stop our fun! Thank you to the LES PTO for all of the planning and work that went into making it a success. The 100 year celebration continues so keep looking for more ways we are celebrating this year.
November comes and goes so quickly. Please keep our school calendar handy because there are many days off and early dismissal days this month. Conferences are also this month. Please be sure to schedule with your child's teacher.
Thank you,
Melissa N. Lockett
November DEI Update
100 Years at LES
Did you know that the original Lawrenceville School building burned down in 1922? The current structure was built and turned 100 this year. The building has had several additions over the years including the 1955 addition with an entrance facing Craven Lane, and the 2004 addition with the current office suite, media center, and Kindergarten wing. Here is one picture of the construction being done in 2004.
Family Engagement
Reading at home with your child? Try some of these ideas and questions each night.
-Take turns reading.
-Let your child choose the book (you can re-read favorites too!).
-Sound out new words together and discuss the meaning of the word in context.
-Books with rhymes, repeating phrases, sounds and songs are especially helpful for young readers.
-Ask questions and discuss what you've read! See below for ideas. 😍
American Education Week visitation is November 14!
American Education Week is a nationwide event that honors the dedication and hard work of educators and education support professionals. It emphasizes the value of a quality education and the need for collaboration among teachers, parents, and the community to ensure student success. In the spirit of this collaboration, we invite parents to join us in school from 9:30-11:30 on November 14. Please contact our main office or your child's teacher if you have any questions.
PK Pumpkin Party & Garden Fun!
Farmer Mel visited several times this Fall. We had so much fun redesigning the garden, planting and harvesting! Our third graders will put the garden to rest for the Winter in the next week or so. No worries! Farmer Mel will return in the Spring to begin preparing the beds, growing seedlings, and planting for the Summer! Thank you to our parent volunteers for a wonderful season. If you are interested in volunteering during the school year, or in the summer, please contact our main office.
Halloween & School Improvements
Our beautiful school continues to get new improvements! Check out the new painted area of the playground. More freshly painted areas to come! Our 100 year flags are up, and a new matching banner is on the way!
Don't forget the book fair starts November 16!
