CDW Weekly Wrap-Up

The National Junior Honor Society just completed a group project, which was donating food to the Old Tappan Food Pantry. Students also joined together after school to make colorful cards to accompany the gracious donations.

The CDW Brain Busters team, represented by Lyla Murphy, Michael Tang, Matthew Krohn, Amy Choe, Peyton Ling, Trevor Ling, Maxwell Ling, and Justin Lee participated in the second meet of the season at Norwood. Students answered trivia questions from a wide range of topics and competed in mixed groups with other students from Northern Valley Schools. Peyton, Max, and Trevor's teams made it to the semi-finals and Max's team took first place! The next Bergen Brain Busters Meet is a Competitive School vs. School Meet at CDW in December.

On Thursday, December 7th, the students will have a chance to visit the PTO Holiday Shop. Grades 5 and 6 will visit during the morning, and Grades 7 and 8 will shop during their lunchtime. Please make sure your child brings his/her money into school to purchase items.

Congratulations to the 5th/6th Grade Juniors for an amazing, undefeated season of 8 wins and no losses. They have made it to the Super Bowl Championship game this Saturday, November 18th at Pascack Hills High School at 4:00 PM.

Once again, the PBA will be holding its annual Toy Drive. The box for your donations of new, unwrapped toys will be in the CDW Main Lobby.

The students in Grade 8 Art explored the principle of design, "proportion," by learning how to use a grid method to recreate large scale snack bags! Students challenged themselves to capture all of the details and match the colors by mixing paints to match the colors needed.

Ms. Santa met with Grades 5 and 6 this week for a lesson about diffusing gossip and rumors. We talked about demonstrating empathy and compassion, taking others' perspectives on situations, and showing concern for the feelings of others.

8th grade information:

If your child applied to Catholic High Schools, his/her transcripts were sent to the schools on Wednesday.

If your child is applying to any of the BCA/Tech programs, the application is due by November 30th. Once the application is submitted, the teachers and Ms. Adamo will receive the necessary forms to complete.

Please continue to check Ms. Adamo’s Google Classroom for information regarding applying to other high schools and/or for the transition process to NVOT.

6th grade information:

On Thursday, November 16th, Ms. Adamo taught a Conflict Resolution lesson to the 6th grade. This lesson helped students learn better listening and communication skills, while learning more about themselves and their classmates.

One important takeaway from this lesson was students realized how they all play a part in where conflict occurs in school: gym, lunch/recess, and the hallways. By making a conscious effort to behave better/kinder, they can reduce conflict and make their school experience more positive and fun.

Intramurals with Mrs. Henriquez will began today. The first sport is volleyball! If your child(ren) is interested, he/she can see Mrs. Henriquez with any questions. Inter-Scholastic Sports and Intramurals Information can be found HERE. If your child(ren) plans on doing intramurals at all throughout the year, please make sure that his/her paperwork has been handed in to Mrs. McCarthy, the school nurse.

The Preparticipation Physical Evaluation (PPE) may ONLY be completed by a licensed physician, advanced practice nurse (APN) or physician assistant (PA), who has completed the Student-Athlete Cardiac Assessment professional development module.

Every first Friday of the month, the Class of 2024 will be selling candy and ice pops at dismissal for an afternoon treat. Students in Grades 5-8 can go to the Lynch Gym to purchase their treat of choice! The CDW Homework Club is offered to all of students in Grades 5-8 and is FREE! Please sign your child up each week that you are interested!

If you would like to purchase insurance for your child(ren)'s school issued Chromebook, please refer to the information below, or you may purchase directly from smarttechinsurance.com/old-tappan.

New to our insurance policy this year is that all Chromebooks must be in cases or the insurance will not cover any claims.
