4th grade students in Mrs. Krause's class connected their Wonders story "Forces and Motion" with their energy unit in Science. The students created ramps and tested their knowledge of potential and kinetic energy to create ramps that used gravity to pull their cars faster and further.

There have been a number of occasions this year that adults are standing in the park watching students during PE and play time outside. The staff are concerned about this practice. Our staff does not know all parents, so everyone is a "stranger." In addition, they have noticed that the observing parties appear to be taking picture or video with their phone and at times approach the fence.

If you would like to observe your child's classroom during the school day, please make an appointment with your child's teacher. In addition, it is district policy that volunteers/parents not be allowed to take pictures as there are a number of students whose parents have restricted photo release.

Please be respectful, these policies are in place to ensure the safety of all children. If you notice this behavior, please notify the office.

The 6th Graders of Imperial are hosting a night at Ultimate Ninja on Friday, Oct 20th. The cost is $30 for 2 hours and 75% of all sales will go back to Imperial 6th Graders. Section 5 of Article IX of the State of California Constitution guarantees students a “free public education.” The State Supreme Court concluded in the 1984 case of Hartzell v. Connell, “that all educational activities carried on by public school districts, extra-curricular as well as curricula, must be without cost to the students who participate in such activities.” This same ruling found that “mandatory fees for participating in such extra-curricular activities as drama, music, and athletic competition were illegal under the State Constitution.” Furthermore, they also rejected the argument that “fees could be charged so long as the district waived fees for students who were financially unable to pay.” Recent proposed legislation includes reimbursement with interest for any illegally-collected fees as well as a district sanction.
