NOTRE DAME CATHOLIC PRIMARY SCHOOL
11 November 2021
Dear Parents and Staff
Remembrance Day marks the end of fighting on the Western Front on November 11, 1918. At that time, the anniversary was known as Armistice Day, in reference to the formal agreement the German leaders signed to end the war. The name was changed to Remembrance Day after World War II ended in 1945 and has since become a day to remember the service and sacrifice of those who have died since World War I. This morning we held a short service over the PA system immediately after recess which incorporated a one minute silence in honour of all who have served our country.
In Flanders Fields
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
ANNUAL COMMUNITY MEETING
Our Annual Community Meeting (Formally known as the Annual General Meeting) will be held on Tuesday 23 November in the school Library commencing at 6.00pm. At this meeting reports will be presented outlining the activities and financial status of both the School Advisory Council and the Parents’ and Friends’ Association for 2021 and elections will be held for representation on both groups for 2022. I encourage parents to consider applying to serve our school community on either of these parent representative groups. Information regarding representation on the P&F can be found in their article in today’s newsletter and the following are considerations for becoming a member of the School Advisory Council.
a) possession of special skills that will be an asset to the Advisory Council;
b) a deep interest in the welfare of all students and staff;
c) a desire to give service to the Notre Dame Catholic Primary School Community;
d) a keenness to promote Catholic schooling;
e) an ability to work cooperatively and constructively with all other members of the Advisory Council; and
f) a sufficiency of time to devote to Advisory Council duties.
Nominations for the Advisory Council are to be in writing and handed in at the school office marked “School Principal – Confidential”.
Should you require any further information please contact me through the school office.
Y-SAFE
Thank you to our Parents’ and Friends’ association for inviting the Cyber Safety team from Y-Safe to present information to the children, parents and staff on how to remain safe online. Their talks were both informative and relevant to many of the issues that confront all of us regularly online. Technology is an amazing tool when used appropriately but it can also be quite insidious and destructive. One of the things that I noted from the parent presentation was the ABC of a cybersafe home:
A - Manage Access
B-Set Boundaries
C - Openly Communicate
We need to all remain vigilant to keep our children safe.
3YO KINDY ORIENTATION
It was an absolute delight to visit the Kindergarten on Tuesday afternoon to see our 2022 3YO Kindy children having so much fun. I look forward to seeing them all next year as they commence their educational journey with us.
YEAR ONE LITURGY
After hearing the amazing reading, clever answers and beautiful singing at the Year One Liturgy on Wednesday morning, it is obvious that the children are certainly ready to be moving into Year Two in the new year. I’m sure some of the parents and grandparents were happy that
Fr Quynh wasn’t asking them the tricky questions during his Homily, but the children were quick to answer with perfect responses. Thank you to the staff who prepared the children so well and to the family members who were able to attend. I now look forward to the Kindy Liturgy next Thursday at 10.00am.
YEAR SIX CAREERS EXPO
At the time of writing the newsletter I hadn’t had the opportunity to visit the Year Six Careers Expo but I’m looking forward to hearing about all their dreams and aspirations this afternoon. This is a great opportunity for the students to explore the requirements for their future career and to consider how they will achieve these as they move on to High School.

REMEMBRANCE DAY
The 11th hour, of the 11th day, of the 11th month, in 1918, is the moment when fighting ceased on the Western Front during the First World War after more than four years of continuous fighting. Each year, at 11am on 11 November, Australians pause for one minute silence in memory of all those who have died in wars, conflicts and peace operations around the world. This day has become known as Remembrance Day or Armistice Day.
We as a school commemorated Remembrance Day on Thursday by participating in a whole school prayer service. Children reflected in their classrooms about those people who gave their life in service for us.
You may like to talk with your families about this special day.
The children in Year 2P have drawn some pictures and written some prayers to God thanking the veterans. You could pray these at home.
Dear God
Please help the people who have died in wars and the people who have survived.
Thank you for protecting us.
Thank you to the soldiers for protecting Australia and protecting all families.
Please God, keep them in your prayers.
Love Naishe and Monica (2P)
PRE PRIMARY NEWS
English
Wow…we have become reading and writing superstars this year! This term, we are putting into practise everything we have learnt and are getting ready to go to Year One. We have been writing sentences on dotted thirds and are reading decodable books that include our sight words and words with blends/digraphs. We love having a go and sounding out tricky words. You have blown your teachers away this year and we are so proud of your efforts.
Maths
This term in Mathematics we have been busy learning lots of new things. We started the term looking at 2D shapes and what there properties are. We have also started to look how to make equal groups and have even started sharing between four. It has been interesting exploring using informal units to measure Area.
Outdoor Classroom Day
Last Thursday was Outdoor Classroom Day. We spent the afternoon outside playing with mud, catching fish in the water trolley, building with big blocks, colouring and completing a nature walk. We had so much fun with our friends and wish we could spend every afternoon outside!
Open Night
Open Night saw all of our amazing work from Terms 3 and 4 hung around the classroom for our Mums, Dads and other important adults in our lives to look at. We also got to show them our beautiful artwork that we completed with Mrs Flexman last term. The work displayed shows just how hard our Pre-Primaries work and is a credit to them for all of their efforts.
We look forward to an exciting and enjoyable rest of Term 4 and can’t wait to be big Year One next year!!

PARENT TV
ParentTV expert and Behavioural Specialist, Lunch with Jason , had to step in at the last minute before his daughter did something naive and potentially catastrophic online. Has anyone else encountered this?

Some of the attitude we get from our tweens can be A LOT. They're going through huge amounts of change and express it through their behaviour. Happy, angry, upset, you never know how they're going to react! Bit confusing for the whole family..
Read this blog to learn about tweens and what they're going through and how you can help as they grow.
