Dear Parents:

The message below was shared with all of our Wredling students, throughout this week, in our Daily Announcements. We are expecting our students to meet this daily expectation by wearing their student ID. Each student is provided two ID’s (one original and one replacement ID) free of charge. Any additional ID will cost $5.00 each. This charge will be added to your child’s PushCoin account. Please take the time to have a discussion regarding this expectation with your student. It is important that they understand that the consequences of not wearing their ID could get costly.

“All students and staff need to wear their IDs at all times in the building. We are now collecting the names of students to order them a new ID. Remember- the first replacement ID is free. After that, they are $5.00 each. Thank you for modeling this expectation!”

As you know, we have begun using i-Ready this year to improve achievement in reading and math. While initially, we were asking students to complete two sessions of 50-minutes in reading and in math, we have now decided to shift our model to a more "success" based model. Our expectation is that students who are using i-Ready successfully complete one reading and one math lesson per week. We believe that this will make this program more manageable for students as well as increase learning since we are moving from "getting through it for 50 minutes" to "making sure I am successful on a lesson". Please note that depending on the lesson and your child's skill, the lesson can take more time or less time.

Our district has created an opportunity for students to take part in an online personalized learning pathway based on learning standards that center on:

• comprehension of informational and literary texts across the curriculum
• vocabulary development across the curriculum
• number and operations that support the curriculum
• algebraic thinking
• measurement and data analysis across the curriculum
• understanding of geometric concepts

These standards-based lessons align to each student's performance on the building-wide diagnostic tests and provide an opportunity for each student to fill any learning gaps created in these areas, increase practice in grade-level content, or extend their learning to above grade level concepts that meet their advanced needs.

State legislation requires that all Illinois children in Sixth Grade will have a dental examination. A licensed dentist must perform the examination, and he or she shall sign the form. Dental offices should have the form available, but it is also available online at www.d303.org under Departments, then Health Services, then “Health Documents and Forms”. Each 6th grade student must present proof of a dental examination by a dentist prior to May 15, 2021. The exam must be dated within 18 months prior to May 15, 2021. If your child has had an exam already, you can ask your dentist to complete the form for the exam.

The Illinois Department of Public Health has established a waiver for children who show undue burden or lack of access to a dentist. Parents or legal guardians who object to the dental examinations on religious grounds shall present to the school a signed, detailed statement of the objection.

The deadline is quickly approaching! Please submit this if you have not already done so.

Our police liaison officer relayed to us that the police department has been seeing a rise in cases with two apps in particular which are designed to enable child predators. Omegle’s tagline is “talk to strangers.” Children press a button and then they video chat with a stranger from any location of whatever age. https://www.omegle.com/

Among Us is currently a very popular game where “imposters” have to kill members of a group and then they get together to talk about what they saw and vote on the identity of the imposters. The app has text and voice chat capabilities in the “lobby” while waiting for games to start. There are several examples of people meeting and exchanging SnapChat or other contact information in the lobby. https://innersloth.com/gameAmongUs.php

It is time for WEB Recruitment!! WEB, “Where Everybody Belongs” is a mentoring program where next year’s 8th-graders (CURRENT 7th graders) are trained to welcome and mentor next year’s 6th-graders.

If you are responsible, dependable, and interested in developing leadership skills, we WANT YOU!! We are looking for students with diverse backgrounds, interests, and academic ability. We want our incoming 6th graders to “see themselves” in their 8th grade WEB leaders.

We still have 118 Families that have not completed the 2020-2021 Annual Update Form when registering their student for this current school year. We have separately sent a ParentLink email to directly all of these families.

The form can be found by clicking THIS LINK. Click the red box "Annual Student Registration Update Form" and log in with your HAC credentials. BE SURE TO CLICK SUBMIT WHEN YOU HAVE COMPLETED THE FORM. If you have more than one student, you can toggle between your students at the upper right side of the form.

Each year we send out the Illinois 5-Essentials Survey to gather input from parents and guardians, staff, and students about how we are doing here at WMS. We use the data we gather to improve communication, find ways to engage students at a higher level and improve student learning.

I am hoping you can take 7-10 minutes to complete this survey for me. It is very simple to complete. And not only do we find the information valuable, but it is a required part of our ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Acts).

Wredling Middle School

The Wake Up Call presentation, a program of Your Choice, on February 2, 2021 provided practical information on current drug trends, a walk-through of a teens' bedroom with more than 20 red flags that could indicate substance abuse, and proactive parenting strategies to keep your child substance free.

The presenters, all with lived experience, combined their personal stories, experience working with students and families, and shared things they wish they would've known into an engaging, real and unique presentation. Families who wish to submit a Middle School Transfer request may do so beginning February 1, 2021. Families must complete a separate form for each student they want to be transferred. Requests are granted based on space available. This means that siblings are not guaranteed placement. A written decision will be communicated to families before spring break.

Once the request is approved, a student may remain at that middle school throughout his or her middle school career, as long as the student resides in District 303.

Families of students granted permission to attend a school outside of their assigned attendance area are responsible for their own transportation.

Students will return to their assigned attendance area high school regardless of the middle school attended.

The Middle School Transfer request window will close at 4:00pm on February 26, 2021.

All students have the opportunity to engage in optional learning experiences by visiting the D303 Remote Learning Resources page. There are a variety of learning experiences in the areas of math, digital citizenship, English Language Arts, college and career, virtual field trips, STEM, and social emotional learning. Students may engage in these experiences at any time.

Masi Siddiqui, one of our 7th Grade RedHawks, is collecting money for the Lazarus House Homeless Shelter. The pandemic has been a struggle for a lot of people and he wants to help the community. The Lazarus House’s mission is to offer guests connected to our communities, who are homeless or in need, hope for the future by providing hospitality, food, safe shelter, and education. 1. You can donate to GoFundMe, by searching up Help Lazarus House ( Homeless Shelter ) WMS on the GoFundMe website! The funds will go directly to Lazarus House. Can't find it? Students can email Masi Siddiqui.

2. You can write a check going to Lazarus House (done by your parents) and you can drop it off at Wredling Middle School saying that it's for the Lazarus House Fundraiser. Then your check will be successfully delivered to Lazarus House

It takes more adults to operate schools safely for students during the pandemic. District 303 currently has numerous job openings in a variety of job categories. If you are looking for temporary, part-time, or full-time employment, please visit the D303 Human Resources page to apply for a position.

One of the more flexible positions available is that of a D303 Substitute. You can choose to work, or not work, as your schedule permits. Take a moment and read the Substitute Handbook to see what this job entails.

If you are interested and hold a:

• Bachelor's degree in any field you would qualify to apply for a substitute license with the state which allows you to sub for teachers or teacher assistants. You would apply using THIS link.
• Associate's degree you apply for a Paraprofessional license which only allows you to sub for Teaching assistants. You would apply using THIS link.
