Leyden and Cook County Health Dept consider clinic
Leyden Community High School District 212 is exploring a potential partnership with the Cook County Health Department to provide a community health clinic near East Leyden. Ideally, this clinic would provide services to students, families, and community members regardless of an individual's ability to pay. Please help us enhance our understanding of our school community’s perspective by taking part in a short (3-minute) survey:

Leyden launches new text messaging system
Communication between families and teachers is one of the best ways to help our students succeed in school. At Leyden, we have a new system called Talking Points that we are testing for the remainder of this school year that provides an opportunity for text connections between teachers and parents/guardians.
Of the many benefits of this system, one of the most important is the ability to translate messages into the languages selected by our families during the enrollment process. This system provides instant auto-translations and then also utilizes live translations on a delay as needed to ensure the integrity of a message.

Host families needed for students visiting from Spain
Leyden is in need of three families who can host a visiting student from Spain for our first-ever Spanish Exchange Program. Students will be coming from Begues, Spain (just outside of Barcelona) to stay with families from November 6-17. Families who host do not need to speak Spanish. The Spaniards will attend field trips during the school days. Please contact Mike Aldworth (maldworth@leyden212.org) for more information or to confirm your willingness to host.
Movie night under the stars
All students are invited to Friday Night Movie Night hosted by Operation Snowball on Friday, October 27, at the West Inner Courtyard from 6:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. We will show the movie Happy Death Day. All students are welcome and the best part is it is free and so are the concessions. This will be happening outside so dress warm, bring a blanket and be prepared to be scared. In case of inclement weather the event will be relocated to the Eagle’s Wing.

This month's One Amazing Story features the creative process of a group of students and staff as they imagined original artwork to represent the heart of Leyden. Facilitated by professional artist Victor Montañez, a group of students and staff came together throughout the spring and summer to create five interchangeable panels that tell the story of their school.
According to West Leyden Student Equity Board Member Grace Dillion, “I really hope that when students walk down the hallway and see this mural, that they see themselves in it and then they feel like, ‘Oh, that's me'. The photo is for them. It's not just for us, it's for everyone that goes to Leyden.”
The mixed media paintings will be displayed in the hallway near the library at West Leyden.

Boys Soccer wins IHSA Regionals
On Friday, October 20, the Leyden Boys Soccer team won the Regional championship against #6 ranked Niles North! They came back from a goal down at halt to win 3-1. Jesus Ramos equalized then a minute later Fabian Rodriguez sent a 60 yard free kick into the back of the net. Daniel Llanos took over from there making several great saves until Oliver Salgado sealed it with a 3rd goal. The Leyden Eagles have beaten several Top 20 teams this season such as St. Charles North, York, and Lane Tech and tied 0-0 with #1 ranked OPRF, and won their first conference championship since 2011.
With the special season they are having, several players are being recognized for their roles in leading the team to a #7 state ranking thus far. Senior midfielder Ariel Diaz is recognized as our All Academic All Conference selection with the highest GPA, while Seniors Angel Perez, Ryan Pikor, and Chris Ferrer were also recognized as All Academic selections with a GPA over a 3.0. Angel Perez was recognized by our conference as our Sportsmanship Award winner.
As a result of going undefeated in conference, the following players were selected by the coaches as All Conference selections: Senior midfielders Ariel Diaz and Rafal Nozka, Junior Goalkeeper Daniel Llanos, Junior Midfielder Brandon Delgado, and Junior defenders Yadier De La Cruz and Stefano Andrino.
This season has brought recognition from the Illinois High School Soccer Coaches Association (IHSSCA) and named Senior Defender Duvan Trujillo and Junior Defender Fabian Rodriguez as All Sectional Award winners. Furthermore, the IHSSCA has recognized Senior Midfielder Oliver Salgado as an All State selection, which is the program's first since 2019. Salgado, the team MVP, tallied 15 goals and 10 assists on the year.
