Board Meeting Summary

General Information

At 6:31 pm, the December Regular BOE meeting was called to order by President Snider. The consent agenda was passed including board bills. During board input a discussion was held on how best to inform the public on candidates running for the BOE. Superintendent Kashner shared that he was informed of 9 individuals running for 4 four-year terms and one individual running for a two-year term. Member Henze and Secretary Cassens suggested having candidates provided questions to answer that the district can help distribute. It was agreed that questions will be brought to the January meeting with the questions to be sent out either in February or March. Member Waller shared that he was blown away by the holiday breakfasts' that the school held for all students and staff on December 20 and 21 and how he hopes that this becomes an annual tradition. Superintendent Kashner thanked Member Waller, Member Witt, Vice President Preston and President Snider for helping with the event. Superintendent Kashner shared that this has quickly become an annual favorite and was amazed by the amount of staff that helps prepare. Principal Burkholder, Principal King and Superintendent Kashner all shared their gratitude to our food service director, Mrs. Melissa McLain, and her entire staff for the legwork to make this a success.

Old Business

In Old Business, the BOE approved the 2023 tax levy, press policy updates 2:100, 2:20, 2:30, 2:50, 2:100, 2:105, 2:210, 2:250, 2:265, 3:10, 3:50, 3:60, 4:10, 4:120, 4:140, 4:165, 4:190, 5:10, 5:20, 5:120, 5:190, 5:200, 5:220, 5:250, 5:280, 5:290, 5:320, 5:330, 6:15, 6:20, 6:50, 6:60, 6:65, 6:160, 6:250, 6:255, 6:260, 6:270, 6:280, 6:300, 6:310, 6:340, 7:10, 7:20, 7:50, 7:70, 7:100, 7:180, 7:190, 7:250, 7:285, 7:290, and 7:340, and approved going out for bids on the EES small gym remodel.

Superintendent Kashner reviewed the levy as it remained the same as the tentative tax levy from the previous month. Superintendent Kashner commented that the amount levied will allow for facility improvements without paying additional money from reserves as the reserves are paying for the scheduled EES addition. He added that the estimated tax rate will actually decrease significantly from 4.23 to 4.05. Assuming your EAV did not rise, this means that an individuals tax levy will go down $295.17 on a $500,000 value home.

New Business

In New Business, the BOE heard a 1st reading on the EJSHS curriculum guide, approved the school maintenance grant for $50,000, E-PC football cooperative, JH and HS wrestling cooperative with Polo, and renewed the CollegeNow agreement.
