Treat Yourself Days!
Our awesome administrative team is at it again! They made their rounds to each campus and served a loaded baked potato to each employee. The pulled pork and cheese toppers were right on target! Thank you so much for the love and respect you show to your employees.
It takes a Village!
Thank you, Renee Marler of OurGunter, for reminding us that it takes a village to report everything that goes on in this district. No "one" person or business can do it all, but we try :)
From the OurGunter Facebook page...

National School Counseling Week 2023 - Feb. 6-10, 2023
National School Counseling Week 2023 was initiated to focus public attention on the unique contribution of school counselors.Thank you to the counselors at GISD for the tremendous impact you have on our students. We see you working with our students on a daily basis, and the students see it too!
At the elementary, Mrs. Rice was showered with gifts and notes from the teachers and students. Our middle school students left sticky notes on the door of Mrs. Hogan's office, and the high school student council bragged about Mr. Waggoner and Mrs. Johnson on social media.
National School Resource Officer Day - February 15th
Thank you, Chief Satre, for keeping our campuses safe! The elementary students were excited to say thank you in their own special way!
Bus Driver Appreciation Day - February 23rd
We would like to give a shout out to some of the best drivers in the great state of Texas! They have the responsibility to deliver the most precious cargo our district has; our children. We couldn't have thought of a better way to show our appreciation than to have the littlest Tigers hand deliver thank you cards to each of our drivers! Take a look at the pictures, and all the smiles! The kids love our drivers because they do much more than just drive; they truly care. Thank you for all you do!
Mark Neely, Mark Williams, Trevor Harden, Nick Lorusso, Ken Thorne, Robby Aultman, Nicole Mann
GIFT Donation
We are very grateful for the Ladies who Bingo who donated to the GIFT foundation this month. We will use this generous donation of $6,139.54 to provide scholarships and grants to well deserving students and teachers across the district! Please thank this wonderful organization and head on over to their page to support all they do!
GISD Calendar - A great source for what's happening in our district!
It is spring, and you can tell by looking at our Event Calendar that Spring has Sprung! Softball, tennis, golf and track have all begun. Other areas of competition such as Fine Arts, HOSA, FFA Shows, Bass Fishing, and others are also in the mix. We have meetings, proms, dances, etc... that are coming up.
We are busy, busy, busy! How in the world can you keep up with it all??
If you want to stay up to date on all the district happenings, our district website has two different ways to view the events happening in our district. The most "customizable" way for you to view our calendar is by clicking at the top right where it says, "Event Calendar at a Glance". Once you click into the calendar, you can view it by month, week, or agenda and you can even print it!
All events are updated as we get information from our sponsors, coaches, administration, and campus offices. We keep the entire district in one calendar to make it easy for you to see what is going on.
Classroom Highlights on the Web!
There are always exciting things going on at our campuses, and now you don't have to wait to read about it in the Tiger Times... simply visit our website often and get all the up to date classroom happenings in a timely manner!
Our website and the GISD App offer the ability to share news stories relating to the campus or district. Please visit our website to view the latest stories inside the classroom and around the campus. Click the campus below to view the home page for each site where the News section appears.

❤️ Valentine fun in the Classroom ❤️
Mrs. Booth’s Spanish I and III classes watched a video in Spanish on how to draw Conversation Hearts. The students followed along and then added either sweet or break-up phrases in Spanish. They had a great time selecting what to write! Some students chose to write both; a sweet phrase and a break-up phrase.
Mrs. Fieszel's students LOVED sorting and graphing using the symbols of Valentine's Day!
Valentine Friends
Mrs Barton's students know how important it is to be kind to each other. A Valentine hug is always nice!
Learning to Vote
On February 24th, the kindergarten students dressed in the colors representing the U.S.A. and learned about the voting process by getting their voter's registration cards checked and signing their name to vote. The 3rd graders were a huge help in checking the cards, helping them sign, and handing out necklaces that said, "I Voted". Everyone had a great time in this learning activity!
Each class voted for a class president and vice president. The ballots were tallied, and the following students were elected by their peers:
Mrs. Ploch's class - President - Leighton Foster | Vice President - Lydia Adami
Mrs. Fielding's class - President - George Leonard | Vice President - Colbie Fieszel
Mrs. Fieszel's class - President - Blayden Bernal | Vice President - Connor Ashton
Mrs. Barton's class - President - McCoy Verden | Vice President - Carter Arrington
Congratulations to everyone!
100 Days Smarter!
On February 10th, our Tigers were officially 100 days smarter than when they started the 2022-23 school year in August. Not only are they smarter, some seemed to have aged quite a bit too!
The students and teachers at GES celebrated 100 days of school by dressing up and doing a variety of activities to commemorate the day.
Math & Dimensions
Mrs. Harper's 3rd graders are using markers and other manipulatives to learn about 2D and 3D math concepts. Their drawings are spot on!
Middle School - Students of the Month
The following students were chosen as the February GMS Students of the Month and they are so deserving of this title!
5th Grade - Jemma Dix
Jemma is involved with FFA, so this is a busy month for her! Her favorite subject is science and her favorite musician is JVKE. In her spare time, she likes art and crocheting. Jemma would like to attend Grayson College and pursue a career working with animals.
6th Grade - Kason Lorenzini
Kason is involved in band and photography, and chooses math as his favorite subject. When he is not playing video games, he prefers to be outside; which is a great balance of rest and exercise! He likes to listen to the Turnpike Troubadours. Kason plans to attend Texas A&M and then go to the Fire Academy.
7th Grade - Catherine Green
Catherine is an athlete who plays several sports! She is involved in softball, volleyball, basketball, track and cross country. She loves science class and says her hobby is sports; primarily softball. Her favorite musical group is a blast from the past -- Van Halen. She plans to attend Texas A&M to become a scientist.
8th Grade - Tristan May
Tristan is involved in band, cross country, track and wrestling. His favorite subject in school is algebra. When he's not in school or practice, his hobbies include wrestling and Ju Jit Su. His favorite musical group is the Imagine Dragons. He plans to put his algebra skills to good use in the future by attending Texas A&M to study engineering or business.
Storming the Castle!
Mr. Fletcher's STEAM students have been "Storming the Castle" in class. They built the "castle" out of styrofoam cups and then proceeded to try to knock it down with a variety of projectiles (plastic ball, a bouncy ball, and a soft golf ball) launched from catapults designed and built in the classroom.
There is so much learning going on in this lesson, and the kids probably think they are just having fun! Shhhhh.... don't tell them!
Eating Away at the Earth's Crust!
The Earth's crust is the outermost layer of our planet; it's a thin shell that surrounds the entire Earth. There are two types of crust: oceanic crust and continental crust. Oceanic crust is very thin and is mostly made up of basalt, which comes from lava. With that information in hand, our 6th grade science students in Mrs. Morrison's class brought supplies from home to create a model showing the layers in our great planet; Earth!
Most projects were created from food, so once they were graded, layer by layer, the "earth's layers" mysteriously disappeared
The Color Wheel
Students in HS Art focused on color theory by using primary colors to mix every hue on the color wheel, along with tints, tones, and shades. They really stretched themselves with neutral color challenges, too!
TAEA Visual Arts Scholastic Event
GHS art students competed at the TAEA Visual Arts Scholastic Event in February. This is the most prestigious competition in Visual Arts in Texas. All of our students earned a top score of 4 for their artwork and interview in their respective divisions. The artwork is beautiful!

Try the Instrument Night - 5th Graders
Our second, and final "Try the Instrument Night" is Monday, March 6th from 5pm to 8pm. Our appointment slots are filling up. Be sure to sign-up to avoid a longer wait. Click here for appointment times.
Trying out instruments does NOT enroll your child in band but is a good opportunity for your child to explore something new! Your child will get the chance to try ALL the instruments of the band at this “instrument petting zoo.” As a parent, you will also be able to ask a director questions about the Gunter Tiger Band Program.
Try the Instrument Night will be conducted in the High School Band Hall located next to the Event Center from the Commons. When you arrive, park in the South parking lot and enter the Commons from the glass double doors on the South side (Tiger Lane/Band lot). There will be signs to direct you to the band hall.
We are excited to present this opportunity to your child and look forward to visiting with your family!

Graduation - Mark your calendar!
Graduation is a special time for our seniors, and we can’t think of a more special place to have the graduation than our own Tiger Field. To make that happen, we have decided to change the 2023 Graduation date to Thursday, May 25th at 8:00 PM. Making this change gives us the opportunity to make alternative plans in case the weather does not cooperate.
Our new plan looks like this:
- Graduation - Thursday, May 25th | 8:00 PM
- In the event of inclement weather on Thursday, Graduation will be held on Friday, May 26th at 9:00 AM
- If bad weather persists throughout both days, Graduation will be moved into the GHS Event Center (Main Gymnasium) and held Friday morning at 10:00 AM. If we have to move the ceremony inside, seating will be limited. Each graduate will be given 10 tickets for family/friends.
We are looking forward to making this event as special as we can for the Class of 2023.
