REALISTIC FICTION IN GRADE 4
The 4th grade is in the midst of a realistic fiction writing unit. Student work began with a story arc that was then turned into a story with rising action and a turning point. Stories included believable characters with realistic problems. Our students learned how to showcase the heart of their stories by using thoughts, actions and dialogue. Please check out the beautifully composed realistic fiction stories of Asher Lewis from Mrs. Garofalo's classroom and Reilly O'Neill from Mrs. Paoletta's classroom. When you're done reading, enjoy your own child's story.

MRS. CALVANESE'S FRIDAY SCIENTIST
Each week a student in Mrs. Calvanese's class chooses an experiment. The student follows a format for a lab report and review it with the class. The student then performs the experiment. Mrs. Calvanese's student this week answered the question, What happens when oil is dropped into ? Oil and water do not mix because of their chemical bonds. Water is more dense so it attaches to the bottom of the oil.

The recpoe is in the book, so Mrs. Calvanese's class decided to make it and try it. Mrs. Sardella tried it first and liked it! A few kids liked it, too! The recipe is a mix of grape juice, oil, onion, vinegar, mayonaisse, mustard, ketchup, lemon, salt, and pepper.
