A few words from Principal Hiltner...
or you can pick up pledge sheets from Mrs. Fruetel at school.
If you have not done so already this year, all families need to complete/update the Student datasheets, Media/Medication Consent forms, and Tech Contract forms. All of these are found under the "forms" tab on our school website at https://www.manvel.k12.nd.us/
If you don't have availability to a printer, please stop by the school office to fill out the forms.
If your 5th-8th grade child would like to apply to be a part of Student Council this year, please download the document below and read through the procedure to apply, as well as the expectations of our Student Council members. It is a great leadership opportunity. The deadline for your child to apply is Friday, September 9th.
We are no longer using Lifetouch to do our school pictures. Instead, we have contracted with Behl's Photography in Grand Forks. Picture Day will be Wednesday, September 14th starting at 8:00 am. More information will be sent home as we draw closer to picture day.
On Friday, September 16th, Welcore Health will be at MPS in the afternoon to administer flu shots to any families interested. Forms will be sent home. Signed permission is needed before any student is able to receive a vaccination. Community members are also welcome to attend. COVID shots and Shingles shots are also available to families and community members. Please call the school office for more information or see the Welcore flyer below.
Our 8th-grade class will spend a week at Wolf Ridge in northern Minnesota this fall starting on September 26th. This is the first year our 8th grade will be attending Wolf Ridge in the fall of the year instead of the spring. Special thanks to Mr. Twedell and our parent volunteers who will be spending a week with our 8th-grade class learning and growing at Wolf Ridge.
Mrs. Tunseth has made some minor changes to the Tiny Tunes music group. Tiny Tunes will now include grades 2, 3, and 4 (no longer 5). 5th graders will still be a part of concerts but will be working with other music activities. All Tiny Toon students, 5th graders, and band and choir students will need to wear black pants/skirt and a white shirt for performances. You will receive parent notices when upcoming concerts are scheduled.
Yearbooks are here and are on sale for $25.00 in the office. They are full of fun memories and great learning and are a wonderful keepsake for years to come. Special thanks to Mrs. Nowatzki for creating and publishing our MPS yearbooks! If you were an 8th grader last year, please stop and pick up your FREE yearbook, compliments of Manvel PTO.
We are sad to announce that Elisa Nowatzki, our office administrative assistant has taken a new job to pursue her culinary passion at Bernie's Restaurant in EGF by Molly Yeh of the Food Network. She will be leaving MPS on Friday, September 2nd. She has been instrumental in helping MPS run smoothly and will be greatly missed. We have hired Abby Chisholm of Manvel to be our new office administrative assistant. Please be patient as we make this transition in the front office.
Remember, please make plans with your child each morning about where they will go after school. If there is a change during the day, you must call the school before 1:00 pm. The office is very busy at the end of the day and we cannot guarantee that any changes will get to your child's teacher. Thank you for working with us on this.
We are focusing on "INTEGRITY" this first month of school with our students. Please ask your child to tell you what integrity is ~ our staff is watching for students this month who show integrity to others and will be selected as the September Mustang of the Month for their classroom.
As always, the success of our school is in direct correlation to the partnership we create with you ~ our parents and families. Please don't hesitate to call or visit about any ideas or concerns you may have to help make Manvel School even better! You are an important part of our success and growth each year.
~ Mrs. Hiltner

A note about Free & Reduced Lunch paperwork for ALL Families
Manvel Public School encourages ALL families to complete the free/reduced meal application, as the federal program provides more than just meals:
➡️School Funding: The amount of funding the district receives is dependent on our rate of free/reduced students, as is our eligibility for additional grant funding. Ensuring our free/reduced rate is an accurate representation of our district is vital in providing a valuable education.
➡️School Meals: Most commonly associated with the free/reduced application is the opportunity to receive free or discounted school meals for children. Eligibility is based on family size and income.
➡️Activities: Families enrolled in the federal free/reduced meals program are eligible for fee waivers associated with student activities.
➡️College Applications: Families enrolled in the federal free/reduced meal program are eligible for fee waivers associated with the college application process at select universities.
➡️Standardized Tests: Families enrolled in the federal free/reduced meal program are eligible for fee waivers associated with national standardized tests (ACT, SAT, and AP Exams).
