BlendED Playbook: Student Reflection
Reflection, from a student’s perspective, is an important component in the learning process. It makes learning more meaningful for the student as it deepens understanding of the content by helping make personal connections and drawing on prior knowledge. It also allows them to reflect on what went right and what needs more attention. This reflection and subsequent re-attempt indicates growth within the subject area and solidifies the learning. From a teacher’s perspective, student reflection can be a great way to validate what the student understands and identify gaps in the learning process where additional support may be needed. From either perspective, student reflection is a vital part of blended learning.
Within our Blended Learning Professional Learning Playbook, student reflection can be accomplished numerous ways. Schoology, Seesaw, Explain Everything, Notability, Telestory, DrawTell HD, and Chatterpix are all multimodal ways to capture student reflection. We define multimodal as using voice, video, and visuals. Student reflection is an integral part of the learning process and therefore an important part of the BPS BlendED Professional Learning Playbook.

Just a friendly reminer, Seesaw provides FREE Blogging for students! There is no longer a need to dig deep into your pockets to purchase a blog site anymore!
Seesaw Blogs are a great way for students to share their learning and understandings with others. Blogging provides students with an authentic audience of their peers, parents, and students around the globe, encouraging better work and real feedback. Teachers can directly connect with other classrooms around the world and develop digital citizenship skills within a safe, teacher-moderated environment. The Seesaw blog provides simple and seamless posting opportunities for students. Once teachers have enabled their blog, students and teachers can easily post a selection of work from their Seesaw portfolios onto the class blog. Anything in the Seesaw portfolio can be posted to a Seesaw Blog with just one tap from the Seesaw app. Blogging has never been easier-no separate apps or websites needed. The Seesaw blog can be made public on the internet or password protected. Teachers moderate all of the student posts before they “go live” on the blog. Blog comments can be enabled or disabled, and all blog comments require teacher approval. Once a blog is enabled, teachers can connect with other Seesaw blogs to create a list of approved blogs that their students can access from within Seesaw. The Seesaw Connected Blogs is a safe way for students to engage with other classrooms to share their learning. Take some time to check out this amazing possibility!
