HOMECOMING WEEK!
Dear Atholton Families,
Homecoming Week is here! Students spent their Sunday morning and afternoon decorating their respective hallways for the impending judging tomorrow morning. I cannot wait to see the creativity of each class. Please be sure to check our twitter page as we will surely tweet out pictures.
On a more serious note, as we celebrate this homecoming week, I want to remind our community of the perils of teen consumption of alcohol and other substances. In light of the events that took place at another county high school homecoming dance where several students ended up in the emergency room, I am asking parents to have a serious conversation with your children about the dangers of binge drinking. Alcohol poisoning is the most life-threatening consequence of binge drinking. The reality is that in addition to the obvious health-related consequences, there are academic consequences as well. Students have been known to lose scholarships, jeopardize early admission decisions and impact their academic goals with a suspension from school. It simply is not worth it! Therefore parents, I implore you to have a conversation this week about the dangers of drinking and the consequences not only on their academic goals but most importantly on their health. We will be diligent in our efforts to make sure our festivities this week remain safe for everyone.
Congratulations to the varsity football team in their win over North Hagerstown this past Friday. We wish them all the best in our homecoming game this coming Saturday against Mt. Hebron. On another note, I want to draw attention to the JV football program. This team has amassed an impressive record of 5-0 crushing their opponents by an average of almost 14 points! These underclassmen demonstrate discipline, courage, and heart on the field and it shows in the results. I am excited and cannot wait for these young players to make their transition to the varsity team. Congratulations to the JV team and I look forward to following their march to an undefeated season!
This week, members of our golf team will represent Raider Nation at the District V Tournament. Best of luck to Cam Campbell, Nolan Chong, Luke Chory, and Brandon Nguyen.
Lastly, as a reminder, the deadline to purchase homecoming tickets is fast approaching. Remember that your Family File information must be updated to purchase tickets. If your child plans to bring a guest to the dance, a form must be completed (found below). We are adhering firmly to these deadlines. Please contact the school if you have any questions or if you have an extenuating circumstance.
Have a fantastic week!
Warmest Regards,
Robert Motley, Principal
