Principal's Message
Dear Adelante Selby Spanish Immersion Families,
We have had a great last couple of weeks here at school as we head into the February break/vacation. I hope everyone gets the chance to relax and unwind next week and come back refreshed on February 27th. I want to give a HUGE SHOUT OUT to Kelly Coyne and Unidos PTO for coordinating the Family Glow Dance It was a great event for our school! Thanks to Kelly and her crew - Yessica, Gracie, Janice, Cynthia, Carmen, and Veronica! Thank you to Yessica, Erlina and Marina for blowing up so many balloons!!! Thank you to the volunteers selling food, helping students put on glow bracelets or draw glow designs, being a chaperone at the doors, and the clean up crew! Finally, a BIG SHOUT OUT to volunteer 'DJ Jose" for playing a great list of fun and family friendly songs. I think it's great that Jose's son, Santiago, graduated last year and he still loves giving back to our Alebrije community. Thank you ALL for providing a fun, memorable event for our students and families.
Mark your calendars for Parent Teacher conference week which will be Monday, March 21- Friday, March 24th with Early Dismissal days at 1:25 all week(TK at 12:45). Please make note/remember the earlier pick up time at 1:25 PM for transportation purposes and so your child does not have to wait a long time for pick up. For this round of conferences, not everyone will have a conference. Teachers will only schedule conferences if they want to meet with a parent for a specific reason(s) or the parent requests a conference. We will be sending the 2nd Trimester Progress Reports/Report Cards home in the mail on Friday, March 17th.
i-Ready Testing for 1st-5th Graders March 7-March 17th
Our 2nd-5th grade students will take the i-Ready Language Arts test March 7-10th, and the 1st-5th grade students will take the i-Ready Math test on March 14-17th. Parents, please make sure your child is at school on time and has a good night's sleep and breakfast.
What is i-Ready again?? i-Ready is an online program that will help us determine your child’s strengths and areas for growth, personalize their learning, and monitor their progress throughout the school year. i-Ready allows us to meet your child where they are and provides us with data to inform instruction.
The i-Ready Diagnostic is an adaptive assessment that adjusts its questions to suit your child’s needs. Each item a student receives is based on their answer to the previous question. For example, a series of correct answers will result in slightly harder questions, while a series of incorrect answers will yield slightly easier ones. The purpose of this is not to give your child a score or grade but to determine how to best support their learning.
i-Ready Instruction provides students with lessons based on their individual strengths and areas for growth. These lessons are interactive and provide strategic supports to keep your child engaged as they learn.
What can I do to help?
To help prepare your child for the i-Ready Diagnostic, encourage them to:
- Get a good night’s sleep, and eat a full breakfast the day of the assessment.
- Try their best on each question and try not to rush.
- Try not to worry about questions they do not know—remind them that it is expected they will get only about half of the questions correct.
- Be respectful of other students who take longer to finish.
To support your child’s learning i-Ready at home, you can:
- Discuss your child’s progress on their i-Ready lessons.
- Celebrate your child’s learning and growth.
- Encourage them to use i-Ready at home.

School Dress Code Reminder
A reminder to all parents that sweaters, hoodies, sweatshirts can be: black, white, grey, yellow, or navy blue. Recently, a few parents were asking about whether a zippered hoodie sweatshirt is considered a jacket/coat and it is not. Jackets/Coats normally have much heavier material and are not made with a cotton fabric like a hoodie sweatshirt. Please do your best to ensure your child is coming to school following our dress code. Our Family Center received a large donation of clothing for any family that needs help with clothing that falls within our dress code.
Child Nutrition Services: Breakfast and Lunch Menus
A healthy body fosters a healthy and focused mind. Well-rounded meals served in RCSD school cafeterias are created using USDA nutrition guidelines as well as “kid-approved” recipes. Whole grains, milk, fresh produce, protein, and healthy fats containing Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids are the stars of the breakfast and lunch menu items. Studies show that good eating habits and healthy behaviors are connected to academic achievement. Meals provided by Child Nutrition Services help to shape lifelong healthy habits. All students have the opportunity to eat breakfast and lunch for free again this year through our Child Nutrition Services.
