Avon Lake City Schools
-From The Desk of the Superintendent-
Dear ALCS families,
Welcome to the 2023-24 school year!
I hope everyone is having a great summer! We have quite a bit going on in the Avon Lake City Schools while you are enjoying the remaining days before that first bell rings in the near future! We can’t wait to welcome our grades 1-12 students back to class Aug. 22, and our preschool and kindergarten students (welcome Class of 2036) to class Aug. 24. We are looking forward to a full year of activities, celebrations, and successes. I am honored and thrilled to be chosen to lead Avon Lake City Schools and to continue the tradition of excellence our community expects and our children deserve.
From the moment I officially stepped into my office to begin serving as your new superintendent, I felt a sense of pride and I am grateful for the warm welcome. Thank you! My office is always open. Please feel free to call or email me anytime. I plan to send bi-monthly emails to communicate the great things happening in our district and alert families to upcoming events/news etc., in addition to our monthly district newsletter. Follow me on Twitter @ALCSsuper.
In addition to me, you will see new faces in the following roles:
Athletic Director - Dale Krzynowek
Troy Intermediate School Administration - Theresa Lengel and Julie Scanlan
Avon Lake High School Assistant Principal - Maria Gingo
LEAPS Preschool Supervisor - Stacey Vince
Special Education Supervisor - Katrina Muzingo
Our school campuses are already bustling with activity. I have enjoyed visiting each building and meeting our staff and students who have been around during the summer. We currently have 430 students attending our annual Jump Start program. Thank you to our staff for planning such a wonderful engagement opportunity for our students.
I want to also thank our custodial and maintenance team for the excellent work over the summer preparing our buildings/grounds for the new school year. Thank you to all of our staff working throughout the summer months.
The Avon Lake City Schools are committed to keeping our students safe. This year we have changed the way we communicate elementary students’ classroom information. The change is specific to Redwood and Erieview elementary schools which had publicly posted the information. Class lists will no longer be posted on the outside windows of each school for public viewing. This change is due to federal student-privacy laws. We hope that parents/guardians can understand this change in posting lists and respect the decision as each family situation is different. There may be legal issues and/or custody issues within families and our top priority is keeping everyone safe. Families will be able to access their child's room assignment/teacher through PowerSchool after
4 p.m. Aug. 11. Your PowerSchool parent account is the same portal where you completed our Back to School forms. For those families that are newly registered with us (July/August), your registration confirmation email contained your account information.
Please see the calendar included below for upcoming important dates per building, as well as some “SAVE THE DATE” items listed here:
Sept. 8: Fireworks, courtesy of the Avon Lake Football Club, immediately following the football game at Avon Lake Memorial Stadium
Sept. 22-23: Homecoming Weekend
We are looking forward to a great school year!
Please reach out with any thoughts, questions and comments. I look forward to meeting the Avon Lake community.
#ALexcellence to ALite!
Enjoy the rest of your summer break!
Sincerely,
Joelle Magyar
