Happy Friday Hilton Families!

We finally had a full week of school, and a very musical week here at that! The Maltby Choir visited our third and fourth graders on Monday, and we got a preview of the BHS production of "High School Musical" here on Thursday.

Out of Building M/Tu:

I will be out of the building Monday and Tuesday for a Leadership workshop. There is a plan for support on days that I am out of the building, and I will be available to staff if needed. I will be back on Wednesday!

Career Week:

As a reminder, Career Week for the elementary buildings is February 26- March 1st. We are in need of a few more guest speakers! You do not need to have a child in that grade level to volunteer to speak. Each presentation will be roughly 10 minutes with a few minutes for questions from students.Please see the link below to sign up to volunteer as one of our speakers:

As a district we are increasing our efforts to support the Mental Health and Wellness of our students, families and the community by focusing on Relationships, Student Wellness, and Increasing a Mindset for Learning and Growth. Each week we will share a Tip/Resource.

Additional resources and information can be found on our BAS Wellness & Mental Health website or download the new App by typing in Brighton Area Schools on the itunes store or google play. This app will allow students, parents, staff and community members access to resources and support in the areas of Mental Health & Wellness. In addition, you can receive notifications on what is happening throughout BAS and be updated on future events and information.

REMINDER: To ensure your student can participate in class, please be sure he/she has appropriate gym shoes on his/her gym days. Accidents happen...even to the older students! All students should have an extra set of clothing in their backpacks. Also, the Hilton clinic is seeking donations of boys and girls athletic pants or sweatpants in larger children's sizes (8-14) as well as gym shoes in like new condition in children's sizes 1-4.

LESA (Livingston Educational Service Agency) has put together a monthly series of Mental Health and Wellness topics that will be part of a mental health series in our county. The mental health series is a series of topical webinars relevant to parents and families of the Brighton School District. Some of the topics include "Your Child's Anxiety", "School Avoidance", and "Building Your Child's Confidence.". One thing to know about the webinars is that families can join and participate but be completely anonymous. Please see the flier above for more information.

Superintendent Update

The Brighton Area Schools is part of a consortium to serve students in temporary living situations that

provides financial support for educational needs, referral for housing, clothing and other needs, general

support and technical assistance. To ensure compliance with federal law, all school staff must help

identify student living in the following situations: emergency shelters/transitional housing,

motels/hotels, car, parks or public spaces, shared housing due to a loss of housing or economic

hardship, or living temporarily with non-parent or guardian.

The district’s homeless liaison is Starr Acromite and each building has trained staff members to assist in the endeavor. Our consortium contact at the Livingston Educational Service Agency is Candice Olrich. Please contact your building principal or Starr Acromite at 810-299-4040 for information/assistance.

A quick reminder about the board policy regarding medication: All medication including over-the-counter medication (i.e. Tylenol, Motrin, TUMS, cough drops, etc.) must have a MEDICAL AUTHORIZATION FORM. This form requires both the parent's and the medical provider's signature. Without both signatures, we cannot give medication to your student. Also, the school cannot provide this medication. This could be anything from school closings to important updates like the power outage we had today! Also, you can text the code in the picture to join. IF YOU ARE ALREADY ENROLLED IN THIS FROM LAST YEAR, PLEASE DO NOT SIGN UP FOR THIS ONE. LAST YEARS ARE ACTIVE STILL AND I WILL USE THOSE.

Students are not allowed to return to school if:

They have a fever.

They must be fever free for 24 hours WITHOUT the aid or use of medication.

They must be vomit or diarrhea free for 24 hours.

Please do not send medication in with your student.

Staff is not allowed to dispense any medication without a signed Medical Authorization Form signed by a physician.

School Times

Elementary Start and End Time - 9:05 a.m. to 3:57 p.m.

Students will be allowed in the building at 8:55am and then released at 3:57 when school ends. Parents will be allowed into the building at 3:52 depending on how quickly we can get students to the gym. If picking up, please do not forget your child's pick up numbers. You will need to show these to Officer Jen and staff in the gym.

If you are interested in volunteering at the school, you must have a Background Check on file.

One volunteer form is required per school year.

Parents, please be sure to check ALL buildings where your children attend, so you only need to complete one form to volunteer for any school event.

All responses are kept confidential. If there is a problem processing your background check, you will be contacted by phone or email.
