Science Experiences at Metsker Park!
Fourth graders across the district wrapped up their Science Experiences this week with field trips to Metsker Park. Here are two of Memorial’s classes.
Thank you, McMinnville Education Foundation, for making these outings possible!

Students built models to study the effect of water on erosion.
They went on a forest walk and looked for lichen, erosion, different types of leaves, tiny cones and more.
They used models to understand topographical mapping.
Suicide Prevention Workshop
The Willamette ESD is offering a free workshop for families to work together to prevent suicide.
QPR is a skills training featuring a simplistic framework, detailed discussion of warning signs, and pragmatic “scripts.” This widely-used suicide prevention training has been customized for youth (ages 12 and older) and families to participate TOGETHER.
Date: Saturday, Dec. 2 from 12:45 – 3 p.m.
Location: WESD Yamhill Center, 2045 SW OR-18, McMinnville
Plan for Good Attendance
Did you know that scheduling vacations during school time can negatively affect the other students in your child’s class? Having students who need to catch up can slow down the instructional pace for the whole class.

MHS’s Halloween “Spooky Stories”
On Tuesday, the Mac High library hosted a creative writing contest and invited students and staff to write a 250 words or less spooky short story.
The entire school was invited at lunchtime to the theater's "Black Box" classroom to get spooked on Halloween as entrants read their stories aloud.
Winners included (from left) Mik Pastora (second place), J.M. Ruden (first place) and Josh Park (third place).
Visit the library’s web page to read the stories.
School Improvement Input
Our district is committed to listening and responding to your experiences with your school to continuously improve. If you haven’t yet, please take a few minutes to complete the survey.
(Note: On some phones, the survey appears best if you switch to “desktop site” in your mobile browser.)
Your feedback will be used to create action plans for improvement. Thank you!
School/Parent Partnership
If your child seems to have a hard time keeping up with conversations or following multi-step directions, they may have a processing speed issue.
Here’s more information and what you can do to help. Talk to your child’s teacher if you have questions.
Milk Service in Schools
Due to a shortage of half-pint milk cartons, school milk may be served differently in the weeks ahead. Breakfast in the Classroom bags may substitute juice and cafeterias may offer milk in cups.
Water is always available in the classrooms and cafeterias.
Fall Back One Hour
Don’t forget that Daylight Saving Time ends this weekend, and clocks should be turned back one hour by 2 a.m. on Sunday.
Thank you, PTA!
Memorial’s PTA hosted a spectacular art show during conferences last week to kick off their annual Art Literacy project.
See the MSD Facebook page for more photos!
Compliance with Public School Standards
Each year, school districts report on their status for all standards for public elementary and secondary schools.
