Bear Cub Bulletin
Monthly Wilmore Elementary Communication for Families
February Edition 2023
Message from Ms. Thompson
This month is full of opportunities for our students to showcase their writing skills as most classes are practicing opinion writing and research projects. In library students are finalizing their research projects about Black History Month and are showcasing their products throughout the school to help others learn about trailblazers in American History.
We are excited for our 5th grade students to visit the Junior Achievement BizTown this month. JA BizTown combines in-class learning with a day-long visit to a simulated town. This popular learning experience allows elementary school students to operate banks, manage restaurants, write checks, and vote for mayor. Students are able to connect the dots between what they learn in school and the real world.
Our 4th grade Bear Cubs are showcasing their talents and passions during the upcoming 4H Demonstration Day at the end of this month. Families are welcome to help students deliver their supplies to the classrooms on the morning on Friday, February 24th.
Lunch visitors are invited to join us on Friday, February 24th or Monday, February 27th.
Check out the rest of the Bear Cub Bulletin to stay up-to-date and connected to our school and opportunities for your voice to be heard.

Congratulations to Lynley and Isaiah for Winning the District 4H Speech Contest...Good Luck at the Regional Competition
As a community, we strive to create a warm, welcoming place for our citizens to connect, grow, and interact with kindness! As a practical way to spread joy and kindness in our community, we are inviting you to join us and celebrate Kindness Week 2023 (February 13th-17th). Our theme is #jessbekind. All Jessamine County Schools are planning events and learning opportunities throughout the week; our student groups are leading the way with promoting random acts of kindness, and our district is encouraging all staff and students to take time and reach out to those who have made a difference in our lives. Check below for some ways that you and others can get involved. Let's all work together to #jessbekind throughout our wonderful county.
- Send an out- of -the blue gratitude email to someone to let them know how grateful you are for them.
- Post a heartfelt shoutout to someone that did an awesome job.
- Organize a “give back” moment to spread kindness.
- Have adults and kids choose three individuals in their life to thank or do something kind for that week.
Please share your pictures with the #jessbekind hashtag.
Thanks for being a valued participant in our Kindness Week 2023!
Congratulations to a 4th Grade Artist, Airis, for Your Art Showcase and WES T-Shirt Design
Notes and Excuses for Absences
Worried about Absences during the Season of Sickness?
In response to the numerous viruses circulating in the community that are impacting student attendance, we made a few revisions to our practices associated with parent and doctor notes for sickness.
Recommended Practices:
Approve the 1-2 days prior to doctor visits when a doctor’s note indicated that these days should be approved.
If recommended, approve the expended days from a doctor’s note for recovery time.
If a student is absent from school and goes to a doctor 1-2 days later and the doctor’s note only indicates a single day excuse, require the parents to use parent notes for the other days. If they are out of parent notes, administratively approve the additional dates.
Students are allotted 6 Parent Notes for the year and 12 Doctor Notes.
All Parent/Doctor notes need to be sent in with your child or faxed. We are unable to accept notes that have been emailed.
