Dear Henry Family,
Welcome to November Gila Monster students, families, and Henry team members!
Every Friday morning, we do a weekly drawing of tickets for student PBIS winners that have modeled one or more of our 4 B’s during the week. Our 4 B’s include Be Responsible, Be Respectful, Be Safe and Be Kind. In the past few weeks, student PBIS winners have received their certificate and a shiny gold coin to select a new book for themselves from our Inchy Bookworm vending machine. In October, our school generously received this gift and supply of brand-new books from the family of former Second Grade Anna Henry teacher, Mrs. Helen Rowton. Thank you, Mrs. Rowton’s family for your generosity!
The Arizona Department of Education has released official school letter grades to the public this month. For the second year in a row, Henry has earned a “B” for our letter grade. We are immensely proud of our students and team members for their role in meeting this achievement. We are strongly committed to the necessary teaching and learning, as we work towards making additional progress with all our students this year! Henry families are an integral part to this achievement. Thank you for keeping students' home when they are ill. We ask that you please continue to support classroom instruction by ensuring your student is on time for school every day. It is essential for students to arrive on time for learning, as this is a productive first step to start the school day.
In November, Gila Monsters are learning about “Gratitude” with our Character Strong Curriculum that is presented in our classrooms by teachers and our school counselor. Additionally, students will hear more about “Gratitude” during daily morning announcements. The character strength of gratitude involves feeling and expressing a deep sense of thankfulness in life, and more specifically, taking the time to genuinely express thankfulness to others. This thankfulness can be for specific gifts or thoughtful acts.
Mark your calendars for our upcoming STEM Astronomy Night featuring Tucson Amateur Astronomy Association that will take place Thursday, November 9, from 6:00-7:30 p.m. TAAA will have telescopes available for students to view specific stars, constellations, planets, etc. on the back field. Refreshments can be purchased from Pelican Snowballs this evening, too. School picture retakes are also on November 9, in the morning. Tucson Clean and Beautiful Trees for Kids will be on our campus Friday, November 17, from 8:00-10:00 a.m. All Gila Monster classrooms will be participating in our school tree planting celebration taking place this morning.
I am also excited to share that Anna Henry is growing the capacity of our school. Beginning in the 2024 -2025 school year, we will have an additional option to include Grade 6 on our campus for families that would like students to have an additional year of learning at the elementary level. TUSD will continue to offer Grade 6 at both Gridley and Magee Middle School for students that prefer this option. This is a unique experience for our Gila Monsters that will help further prepare them for this transition in their educational experience. More information will go out to Grade 5 families this month.
I would like to extend an expression of gratitude this month for all our United States Veterans for your support and sacrifice to ensure our freedom. Veterans Day is celebrated Friday, November 10, and there is NO SCHOOL on this day.
Respectfully,
Thomas Heminger, principal
