• The jazz band had a successful Jazz & Pancakes fundraiser. Thank you to all that helped organized, plan or even attended! It was a great morning, with over 100 more attendees than last year, and we made $1000 in profit for the band program. Special thanks to Cheri Kovalenko for organizing the day and to all of the performing groups.

• All-State Band auditions were held this past month. Thank you to all that worked towards this prestigious event. Results will be out within the next few days.

• It has been a really fun year for the pep band season. If your student has not attended 4 games, make sure they sign up in google classroom. There are only 6 games left! The schedule is listed here.

• Jazz band competition is starting. Jazz I traveled to NSU to compete and placed 2nd overall, with 3 additonal awards. Outstanding Rhythm Section, Outstanding Drumset by Ian Sheaffer and Superior Solo by Ben Kost.
• February will be packed with 2 competitions for both groups, Mitchell and Augustana. Check your emails on schedules and performance times as they are announced.

• Students have just participated at solo and ensemble contest on the 31st. We had 20 students receive a Division I rating and 3 students with a perfect score, Kelsie Gehrels (trumpet, 12th grade), Alayna Kreger (French Horn, 11th), and Natalie Holifield (Mallets, 9th). It was a really good day and the directors are very proud of the hard work students put in to make this day successful.

• We had 5 students selected to be a part of the SDSU honor band festival in late February. If you see them, please congratulate Alex Wohlwend, Karter Benson-Garr, McKenzie Swearingen, Ben Cox and Linus Ng.

• BPA meetings will now be held on the 4th Monday of the Month, starting in Februrary. This will hopefully help accommodate more parent involvement.

• Next meeting is Monday Feb. 27th from 6-8 pm. Location to be determined.

• We will start sales on Feb. 21st.
• Order forms will need to be turned in my March 8th.
• Delivery date will be March 20th
• Pick up will be at the Pulling residence: 5300 W 53rd Street, Sioux Falls

The trip will be taking place in Spring of 2024. Once dates are locked in, more information will be coming.

Next year's marching band show will be called Encounters. It will be based on the different types of "kinds" with the other-wordly creatures. Be on the lookout for upcoming prop meeting dates and other information on ways you can be a part of this show! It's going to be out of this world!!

ALL band parents are HIGHLY encouraged to attend the monthly Band Parents Association meetings! The RHS BPA provides the fundraising dollars and volunteer support that are ESSENTIAL to helping our childresn have sucessful band experiences. BPA meetings are held monthly and are open to ALL BAND families. Show your support for your student and the entire band program at RHS! We have MANY leadership roles to fill for next year.

The next BPA meeting will be February 27th @ 6:00 pm at the Prairie West Library.
