NEWS FROM THE GUIDANCE DEPARTMENT
Program Planning
During the month of February, Tenth and Eleventh Grade Counselors will meet individually with students to review course selections, answer questions, and make any necessary changes to those requests. The Program Planning process continues through March, so there will be ample time to make sure that all students have made the appropriate course requests! Please visit the Program Planning page of the Guidance Website for additional links, resources, and information.
AP Exam Registration
Advanced Placement (AP) exams will be given at CB West in May (6th through the 16th). Registration for AP exams will open in My Payments Plus beginning on Monday, February 11th. All students enrolled in an AP class this year will receive detailed information about AP exam registration, as well as a bulletin from College Board, through Advisory during the first week of February. For more information about AP Exams, Registration, and important dates and links, please visit the AP Testing page of the Guidance Website.
Pre-ACT Registration
The PreACT will be offered at CB West High School on Saturday, March 30th at 7:45am. This exam is recommended for all college-bound 10th grade students as practice for the ACT. Just as the PSAT helps students prepare for the SAT, the PreACT will help students prepare for the ACT. In addition, taking the PreACT will help 10th grade students who have taken the PSAT compare the different exam types to help decide which exam may be a better fit to take during 11th grade (SAT vs. ACT).
There are a limited number of seats, so registration will be available until exams are sold out. Please do not wait to register. The cost is $21 for each exam. Registration will be open on the MyPaymentsPlus (MPP) website (https://www.mypaymentsplus.com/) from Monday, February 4th to Monday, March 25th (11:59pm). For more information, visit the “testing” page of the CB West Guidance website > Testing Page.

Students must arrive at 2:30pm, but can leave whenever they are finished with their work. If you have questions about this program, please call the Guidance Office at 267-893-2512.
National School Counseling Week
National School Counseling Week, celebrated the week of February 4 – 8, 2019, focuses public attention on the unique contribution of school counselors within US schools. In Central Bucks, your counselors are actively committed to supporting and enhancing the educational, personal and social growth of all students. We help students explore their abilities, strengths, interests and talents as these traits relate to career awareness and development, and set realistic goals for their future pathways. We work together with teachers, administrators, families and community partners to ensure that all CB students maximize their potential and become productive members of society. We are indebted to the support we receive on a daily basis from our CB families, and we encourage your continued participation in your students’ journey through CB schools. For more information about the programs and services the Counseling Department offers at CB West, please visit our website or contact our office at 267-893-2512.

VH1 Performance
Congratulations to the CB West Orchestra for an exciting, sold out, VH1 performance. On Friday, January 25th, they joined forces with the Lenape String Ensemble and the CB VH1 Save the Music teacher band (including Mr. Weaver & Mrs. Tosti) to open the weekend’s shows. CB West senior Taylor Mitchell was also featured for a song with the Lenape Chamber Choir. These annual concerts raise money for the VH1 Save the Music Foundation, which provides funding to in-need school districts. Prior to this year’s shows, we have raised $163,000. This year’s goal of $35,000 will likely be met and will restore a music program to a second elementary school in New Orleans. This annual event has saved music programs throughout the country. Thank you to the CB community for your support!
Girls STEM Club
Starting Tuesday, February 5, 2019, the Girl STEM Club will be teaming up with Doyle Elementary again to provide a fun and engaging Spectacular Science Club for Doyle’s Winter Enrichment Club Program. The student-led Girl STEM Club fundraises money during the school year to provide the materials for this exciting club. They are able to run the club at a low-cost for Doyle students in 1st through 3rd grades so that the elementary students can participate in engaging science and technology experiments through the guidance of our high school students. In addition to other experiments/labs, this year the students will be introduced to an Ozobot and will learn about programming during one of the labs. Be sure to check back here for updates about the club during the month of February.
