Important Dates
Calendar Update - No School on April 8
Parents,
We want to notify you that the Richards School Board and administration elected to make a change to this year’s calendar. Due to the upcoming citywide events scheduled for the total eclipse that will happen on Monday, April 8, 2024, there will be no school on that day. Because of our location on North Hwy 63, we are concerned about the traffic leaving town after the eclipse event which will be on the highway in front of the school, as well as the limited access for fire and police vehicles if needed.
The eclipse will go through West Plains at 1:54 p.m. Full totality will last 3 minutes, and from beginning to end, is close to three hours of viewing, starting roughly at 12:30 PM and ending at 3:15 PM. We will be sending home eclipse viewing glasses with all our students on the Friday before this three day weekend!
The date originally scheduled for Teacher In-Service, Monday April 15 will now be a regular school day to make up for no school on Monday, April 8. Be sure to view the updated calendar to see this change: http://tinyurl.com/uunds9tz

Make Your Child's Art a Keepsake!

Very soon, students from Mrs. Bunch's art classes will be bringing home personalized order forms for the annual Square 1 Art fundraiser. They will be coming home with free stickers of their art work too! A variety of keepsakes can be purchased that will be decorated with your child's artwork. This is a fun way to celebrate your child’s success this school year. Orders need to be placed on or before March 18, 2024. Thank you for your support. In the meantime, visit www.square1art.com/shop to see what keepsakes are available.
Strategy Club
Strategy Club meets on Mondays, 3:45 - 5:15 PM. This club is sponsored by Mrs. Lovan, for students in grades 7 & 8. Students engage in games of strategy to develop critical thinking skills. Students have an opportunity to stretch their thinking to develop minds that are more flexible, focused, logical, methodical, and perceptive.
FCA Club Meeting
Tuesday, March 5, 12:30 - 12:55 PM Fellowship of Christian Athletes Club will meet in the Bunch Gym. Lunch provided.
HCAA 7th & 8th Grade Band Performance

"We Built this City!"
Design a City Challenge
Mrs. Niles' fifth grade students used their knowledge and skills to meet the "Design a City Challenge". They had a multitude of rules to follow for a successful design:
1. Within in a limited space they had to include as many buildings as possible.
2. The city must include roads leading to each building, wide enough to accommodate traffic.
3. Include a green space.
It looks like there may be some future civil engineers among our fifth graders!
Design & Modeling to Help Others
Students in Mrs. Lovan's PLTW Design & Modeling class were tasked with developing a working prosthetic arm. Their design was to be for a soldier that lost their own arm during a military deployment. Students had to ensure that their prosthetic arm prototypes, when completed, had functioning joints for fingers, wrist, & elbow movement & be capable of picking up a tennis ball.
Meet the Letter "S", Part 2
Santa Starts with "S"
The big man himself, came to visit preschool in honor of his favorite letter "S"! Santa Clause and the Mrs. harnessed up the reindeer to surprise the students. Santa and Mrs. Claus shared a lot of their favorite words that start with "S", such as snow, sugar, songs, and, of course, Santa!
