October 2023
Seasons are changing and so are we...
One of the biggest changes we are making this fall is a shift in how we approach behavior management. Our staff has recently adopte a methodology called Collaborative Problem Solving (CPS) this year. Collaborative Problem Solving avoids using power, control, and motivational procedures. Instead, it focuses on collaborating with students to solve the problems leading to them not meeting expectations and displaying concerning behavior. Learn more about Collaborative Problem Solving
Our entire staff have already attended the introductory training and we have just sent our counselor and Behavior Coach to the more intensive "Level One" training. My goal is to send the remainder of the staff to that training by the end of the school year. I would also like to organize an event for our Muddy Creek Families to share CPS with all of you.
Stay tuned for more on CPS and Happy Fall y'all!

Notes from the Office
Just a couple reminders...
✔ TOYS: Please do your best to keep toys at home. We are seeing many stuffies, pokemons, and assorted other playtime items out in class and on recess. If they come to school without teacher's permission we will ask students to keep them in their backpacks until it's time to go home.
✔ ILLNESS: We are seeing A LOT of sick kiddos (and staff!) this month. Even though there isn't a global pandemic going on anymore, students do need to stay at home when they are ill. If they have lingering symptoms when they return to school, please consider sending them with a mask to stop the spread of infection to other children and/or staff. Here is a fancy handout from ODE that can help you decide when to keep your kiddos home: Too Sick For School?
Annual Giving Campaign
So far this year we have raised $3033 in this school year - not counting the efforts of the Music Program Committee! That includes our recent Pastini Dine-In that raised $702 - wow! We are doing great, and we will continue our efforts moving forward.
If you are interested in making a cash donation you can drop off a check with Morgan in the office, or you can use the online payment processing options on our website. You can make monthly donations through paypal, or lump sum donations using our one-time processing button.

Remember to drop off your blue bags to BottleDrop and scan those receipts for BoxTops, too!
Halloween at MCCS
Halloween is Tuesday October 31st and we are getting all kinds of spooky over here! Here are some things to keep in mind as you're planning:
- Students may wear costumes to school, and keep them on all day. Hats/masks can be put on for the parade.
- Morning classes will roll out normally so costumes need to be worn at desks/tables (not too big, no inflatables).
- Please no gory make-up or props; no accesories that look like (or are) weapons, no face paint.
- We will have a parade for all students to see each other and share a vibe. Individual classes may also be planning fallsy activities or parties.
- Please don't send in candy/food or pop in to help without checking with your teacher(s) first!
Character Trait of the Month - PERSISTENCE
The kids are focusing on one character trait each month. Last month it was Kindness, this month is Persistence: Not giving up even when things are difficult. This can look like asking for help with a complex task, it can be taking a break and coming back to something that is hard... Maybe it is walking to the playground when all you really want to do it run! When we see kiddos demonstrating persistence at school we will give them a blue or green "PERSISTENCE CARD" that they can take home! If you see one at your house, ask them how they worked through something difficult :)
