Principal's Report - Phillip Reavis
Wednesday, December 20 – Half Day of School
Parents are reminded that Wednesday, December 20, is the last school day before Winter Break AND that it is a half day of school. Students will be dismissed at 12:00 noon. There is no Extended Day Program on half days of school. The first day back at school in the New Year is Wednesday, January 3, 2018.
Thank You
Many thanks to Oakview parents and students for your kindness and generosity shown to the faculty and staff at the holidays. The gifts and cards are so appreciated and they reflect the care you show for the school and its people. On behalf of the faculty and staff, I wish everyone a restful and joy-filled holiday with time spent with family and friends.
POUND Fitness
Mrs. Edwins, the lead instructor from Mauldin Sports Center, has been at Oakview for 2 weeks working with Coach Miller and Coach Hall in our Artist in Residence (AIR) program. AIR is funded by PTA and gives the students of Oakview a chance to experience new and exciting things, like Pound, in their related arts classes. POUND, a combination cardio and strength class with “constant simulated drumming.” Yes, as in with drum sticks! The 4th and 5th grade students are getting to experience this high energy class in Physical Education this week.
Kindergarten & 1st Grade Registration
While the district window for early registration has closed, parents can continue to enroll new kindergarten and first grade students for the 2018-2019 school year. Registering now allows schools to adequately staff classrooms and be prepared for the number of new students who will arrive in August. All the forms needed to register a student at Oakview for next year can be found on our web site.

Letter from the PTA President
First and foremost, I want to wish you and your family a wonderful holiday season. I know that not everyone celebrates Christmas, but we can all certainly use a break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life so I am praying that each of you will enjoy your time off and, hopefully, will be spending special times with dear family and sweet friends!
We have wrapped up the year with continued success! The toys and coats donated last week were greatly received by the community and our Elf Shelf was a hit this week with all the children that came shopping! Thank you so much for your continued support and involvement in 2017 and I look forward to seeing you all back in January! And stay tuned as we will kick off the year with lots of playground updates and information!
Blessings to all over the break,
Jennifer
