Mrs. Seiler helps spearhead some of the many different building committees happening at HMS. Here is an update and breakdown from two of our most important, the PBIS and the Discipline committees!!!

PBIS Committee: The PBIS committee has been working diligently on Marker 3: Establish and Deploy Effective Procedures for Dealing with Discipline. We have finalized a Matrix for teachers to use in their classrooms and throughout the building to assist with positive interventions and logical consequences that match an infraction. We are moving into Marker 2: Establish and Maintain Faculty/Staff Commitment. We plan to create weekly themes with lessons moving into next year!

Discipline Committee: Overall, our major behavior incidents are trending down. The biggest day for major infractions is Friday. Our current top 3 behavior infractions are:

1) physical confrontation/fighting

2) Loitering/skipping class/vaping

3) Disrespect/insubordination

We would like families to discuss these at home! We also discussed the importance of documenting minor infractions/classroom-level discipline in DataMap and contacting home when you give a student any consequence!

Hamilton Middle School has officially been recognized as a Purple Star School from the Ohio Department of Education! This recognition officially makes Hamilton Local Schools a Purple Star DISTRICT! We want to thank our very own Chris Royal for taking on this process and making Hamilton an amazing place for our military families, we could not have done it without you!!!

This month we saw our students working together and bringing friendly competition to the halls of HMS with their roller-coaster projects! Students were tasked with working together to building functioning roller coasters, bringing their marbles from start to finish! The experiment taught them about speed, velocity, motion and of course, how to efficiently use tape!

Students in Mrs. Montgomery's health class were tasked with taking care of what became known as their egg babies for a few days here at HMS. Students designed, named, and created transportation devices for their egg-children! Students were randomly assigned one egg, or in some cases, twin eggs! The results were so stellar, it was hard not to "crack" up! This project taught students a little bit more about responsibility and how to take care of something that is easy to break! Next step: changing egg diapers!

Both of my parents work as Intervention Specialists and I saw at a young age just how important this job really is. As an Intervention Specialist I work with smaller groups of students, which allows me to really connect and create long lasting relationships. Over the past almost two years I have gotten to create some of the best memories with my students like going to Nationwide Arena, and having Christmas parties with some Elementary students. Working as an Intervention Specialist has brought me so much happiness, and I know I picked the right career path!

2. You come from a small town in Celina, Ohio. What was the biggest change in moving to Columbus?

When I accepted my position at Hamilton Middle School one of my old teachers reached out and told me "Spread a little bit of Celina wherever you go." Coming from a small town it was instilled in me at a young age to always work hard, and love those around me. When I first moved to Columbus I felt that all of my loved ones were back home in Celina. It was a huge transition for me, and was honestly difficult at first. When I accepted a job at Hamilton Middle School things changed. I have such a strong community of teachers and students that I grew to love. Mr. Freshkorn has been an amazing friend, and co-teacher for the past two years! My coworkers truly do feel like family at this point, and I am grateful for that.

3. What is your favorite part of Spring?

I love Spring due to being able to get back outside and enjoy the nice weather. I have an English Bulldog and like taking him on walks after school. (Although he doesn't always enjoy it.) I'm able to play pickleball again, and participate in sand volleyball leagues! I also love Spring for the fun fashion colors. I love wearing bright and vibrant colors to add a boost of dopamine!
