Irish Gifted Academy
Week of February 12th, 2023
From the Desk of Mrs. Methvin
Greetings IGA Family,
It has been a busy and productive week at IGA. With education reimagined, no two days are ever the same at IGA. I am always amazed at the level of academic rigor within each classroom setting. This week, teachers have applied various learning strategies including visualization and cooperative learning. Visualization is very simply put, the ability to create mental images based on the words that are heard or the text that is read. This strategy can drastically help students focus on the concept or subject matter at hand. It brings concepts to life and encourages students to make connections to the real world. Cooperative learning is an instructional strategy in which a small group of students collaboratively work on a given task. The task can be as simple as solving a quiz or as complex as writing a story. In such activities, students with different learning styles work together and help maximize each other’s potential. It nurtures sharing the responsibility to contribute and successfully finish a task. It also encourages students to support one another to achieve the end goal.
February is Black History Month and lessons and activities have been designed to focus attention on the contributions of African Americans. With an emphasis on our local heritage, we will explore and celebrate the contributions of African Americans to the city of Dublin, the state of Georgia, and the nation. Our culminating activity will be the IGA Hidden Figures Wax Museum on February 28, 2023. See more info below concerning our Hidden Figures Wax Museum.
As Valentine’s Day rapidly approaches, please remember that IGA has a No Delivery Policy. We have limited space for deliveries and these deliveries disrupt the function of our academic day. Also, deliveries can cause potential safety hazard on our school bus. Please have deliveries sent to your home to celebrate Valentine’s Day.
Remember that student applications for next year are being accepted through March 10th. If your child, or someone else you may know would like to apply for the Irish Gifted Academy, please complete and submit the application below. Applications can be mailed to:

Students participating in the museum received a letter that went home on Friday explaining their role in the museum. The first House to bring back all of their signed letters will receive a pizza party! We are so excited about this event!
