Over the last few weeks, the SACJS community switched screens for binoculars, and 'mouses' for birds. We hosted a survey, quiz, Art competition, House competition and the Green Team prepared a special video on Bio-Diversity,

Everyone got involved in different ways and we have had lots of fun! This special newsletter, designed for our students to enjoy, is collection of all the news and activities from our first ever Bird Watch! Well done to all!

Here are our top statistics:

• 31 students completed our virtual survey (and we know lots more took part! )
• P5OH were the most active class at completing the survey
• The Blue Tit was the most commonly seen bird
• Fabio in P4B conducted two bird surveys and saw a variety of bird life
• Mr Adair (P6A) took part!
• Some more unusual birds spotted were - siskins, Brent geese, a kestrel, a buzzard, and a dunnock

We had a wonderful array of students participate in our recent online SACJS Bird Watch Quiz. There was representation from K1 all the way up to P5. It was heartening to see such a wonderful level of participation by P5O'H. Ms. O'Halloran seems to have a class of ornithologists on her hands.

There were two participants who scored full marks, 15/15. Congratulations to Sophie Peng in P2 and to Hugo McVeigh in P5O'H on their perfect answering.

A big well done to everyone who took part. Hopefully, you enjoyed the quiz, and might have learned one or two things along the way. I never knew that Ireland had a 'national bird'. It appears we do, the 'northern lapwing', known in Irish as the 'pilibín'. Mr. P

Little known bird fact:

The Tottenham Hotspur mascot "Chirpy" ran (or perhaps 'flew') the 2005 Flora London Marathon for local charities - completing the 26.2 miles in a time of six hours forty mins!

Second little known fact:

Chirpy was spotted looking for his best mate Gunnersaurus (Arsenal mascot) on a recent visit to St. Andrew's College. He had a good look in the hen house, without any luck, then thought, perhaps, on the hockey pitch, maybe the Buddy Bench or the covered play area....? Alas, no sign of Gunnersaurus anywhere. So, in the end Chirpy went back to his 'home from home' (when not in the Tottenham Stadium) - P6A...👍

A huge well done to the following pupils who were the winners of the Bird Watch Art competition! We were blown away with the quality and quantity of the entries! Do look out in the post for something coming your way! Mr. L. Cousins
