We are pleased to present the HSD News Round-up in a new format to better serve our community. In this digital newsletter, you'll find important information about what's going on at Hockinson Schools, like classroom news, sports updates, and how we're working to safely reopen our schools.

The next three weeks at Hockinson Schools all offer something unique:

March 29: Parent-Teacher Conferences begin

The week of March 29 – April 2 is Spring Parent-Teacher Conferences for all K-12 students. During this week, each of our three schools will operate on a special schedule. You can access these schedules at the main page of the HSD website.

April 5: Spring Break begins

We are wishing all of our families a safe and fun Spring Break (April 5-9). Classes will resume on Monday, April 12.

The District Office, temporarily located at 17912 NE 159th St. (the current Hockinson Community Center and former middle school site) will be open during the break. Spring Break office hours will be 8 a.m. - 4 p.m., Mon–Fri. The District Office phone number is (360) 448-6400.

April 12: Kindergarten Registration for 2021-22 begins

Kindergarten registration - as well as registration for any student new to the HSD in Fall 2021 - begins April 12. Click on the link at the top of the HSD website for online registration. Call (360) 448-6400 for assistance.

Kindergarten Round Up, an opportunity for parents to meet HHES administrators, learn more about Kindergarten, and ask questions, will be done virtually again this year. Save the date: Thursday, April 22. Stay tuned for more details!

Community Info Night: COVID-19, School Funding, & Hockinson Schools in 2021-22

Along with our families, the HSD has been impacted by the effects of COVID. One such impact is financial: enrollment declined, funding followed, and emergency federal funding fell short of expectations. Please join Superintendent Steve Marshall and HSD Board President Greg Gospe via a live webinar to learn how our district plans to confront this funding crisis while at the same time fulfilling its mission and meeting the needs of HSD students. Webinar link will be posted on the HSD website on March 31.

Congratulations to all of our HHS and HMS student-athletes! Your resilience, sportsmanship, and achievements give us all something to cheer about.

COVID-19 Updates

Hockinson Schools are working very hard to consistently follow COVID-19 protocols to keep our staff, students, and community healthy. These protocols include mandatory face coverings, social distancing, and good hand hygiene for everyone; and enhanced cleaning protocols and ventilation in our buildings. While there have been no transmissions in our schools as of yet, there have been instances of suspected or confirmed infections on our campuses resulting in isolations and quarantines, which the CDC recommends as a preventive measure. When this happens, communications go out to close contacts of the individual, school staff, and that school’s parents. This information is also updated weekly on our district’s COVID-19 dashboard.

Chromebooks Arrive for Hockinson 5th Graders

Due to unprecedented worldwide demand, the delivery of over 160 Chromebooks for Hockinson 5th graders was postponed by many months while supply chains recovered. But it was worth the wait! These devices benefit our fifth grade students in a number of ways.

Given the current half-day elementary learning format, providing students with Chromebooks enables us to extend the day's in-person instruction by completing independent work at home.
Additionally, introducing fifth grade students to technology like Chromebooks will support a more seamless transition to middle school, which is also Chromebook-based. This familiarity will continue to pay off in high school and, if students elect, Hockinson Virtual Academy.
