Being a parent today is tough! (So is being a kid.) But sometimes we parents have the drive to help our kids so much that we own the task- we take responsibility for what they should be responsible for. There is this 3-minute video that I would suggest you watch. It reminds us that when we own our kid's work, they don't. And then it offers some suggestions on how to help them re-own what they need to be responsible for in school.

There is no perfect way to be a parent. But there are these small nuggets of practical wisdom that help us be better parents.

Our Honor Roll recipients were recognized yesterday with a ribbon, plus a treat at lunchtime from our fantastic PTO!

Please note: We may have some children who earn Honor Roll status but their name is not included on this list. This is because their parents have requested their children's names NOT be published, which includes being published as part of the Honor Roll here or in the newspapers. Changes to this request can be made either in the Home Access Center or with Student Services.

Congratulations to all of our RedHawks who worked hard throughout our 3rd quarter of this school year. A special shout-out goes to those who were able to achieve Honor Roll status by earning either all A's or all A's and B's. All A's are on one tab, AB's are on another! We are working with our PTO to plan our 8th-grade end-of-year celebrations. We have three fun events planned!

• On Tuesday, May 24th we will host an 8th-grade Dance and Social in the early evening. We will need a large number of volunteers to make this dance successful, so look for information soon! Our theme is "Hollywood!" There will be a $10 charge for this event, though all students on free and reduced lunch will receive a complimentary ticket. More information to follow in late April

• On Wednesday, May 25th in the morning, we will hold an 8th-grade awards ceremony at the Norris Cultural Arts Center. All parents are welcome, but we specifically invite those whose children will be receiving an award.

• On Wednesday, May 25 our PTO will host a lunch for our 8th-grade students. Again, we will need plenty of volunteers for this event, so look for information soon.

We have a student working on a web project and needs a Windows PC. Is there anyone who may have a Windows PC that they are not using that they may donate to this student? If you have one to donate, please email Tim Loversky at tim.loversky@d303.org.

We are looking for a parent who has expertise with a salt water fish tank. We would like to learn to maintain it ourselves, but need some help. If that is you, please contact tim.loversky@d303.org.

Next week begins the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) here at Wredling. Beginning Tuesday, April 12 through April 14th, 2022, students will be attending classes on an adaptive schedule with testing taking place in the morning and afternoon.

Please make sure your child is well-rested, has a good breakfast, and is on time for school on these dates. This will help set them up for success as they take these tests. They will also need to bring the following items to school with them for each day of testing:

• Chromebook FULLY charged and ready to go

• Headphones - (check to ensure they are working, please)

• Book to read (physical copy)

• Writing Utensil

Illinois Youth Survey Data: Presented by Ecker Center for Behavioral Health

The Illinois Youth Survey is designed to gather information from students around the state about a variety of health and social indicators such as substance abuse, bullying, violence, and social emotional well-being.

District 303 is partnering with the Ecker Center to provide parents with information about trends in substance abuse in Kane County youth, and ways that you can talk to your children about the dangers of drugs, alcohol, and tobacco.

The Ecker Center has been a trusted behavioral health organization committed to providing care in the community since 1955. They offer an array of comprehensive services for youth, adolescents, and adults.

ID Expectations for Middle Schools: D303 has set clear expectations that all middle school students wear IDs on a lanyard at all times. If a student does not have an ID/lanyard, they will need to purchase a new set for $5 in the LRC. The $5 fee will be charged to your child's PushCoin account. This can add up very quickly if a student does not have their ID several times. Please be sure to talk to your student about showing responsibility by wearing their lanyards at all times, and so that they understand the financial implications of having to buy replacement lanyards.

You should also check their PushCoin accounts routinely for added fees now owed. Login to PushCoin and check under the fees tab for charges. Parents do receive a notification every time a charge is entered into their student’s PushCoin account. If you check under the “Wallet” instead of the “Fees” tab, you may not see the new charges.

1) NO outside drinks (Starbucks, Dunkin’, etc..) will be allowed in the AM. Students will be directed to finish them before entering the building.

2) Parents are welcome to drop off lunch but only for their own child - not a group

3) We DO NOT accept or sign for delivered lunches for students - please do not order food deliveries

State legislation requires that all Illinois children in Sixth Grade will have a dental examination. A licensed dentist must perform the examination, and he or she shall sign the form. Dental offices should have the form available, but it is also available online at www.d303.org under Departments, then Health Services, then “Health Documents and Forms”. Each 6th grade student must present proof of a dental examination by a dentist prior to May 15, 2022. The exam must be dated within 18 months prior to May 15, 2022. If your child has had an exam already, you can ask your dentist to complete the form for the exam.

The Illinois Department of Public Health has established a waiver for children who show undue burden or lack of access to a dentist. Parents or legal guardians who object to the dental examinations on religious grounds shall present to the school a signed, detailed statement of the objection.

The deadline is quickly approaching! Please submit this if you have not already done so. If you have any questions, please contact the WMS nurses at 331-228-3704.

When it comes to issues that concern students and/or school safety: “If you see something, say something - immediately”. On a school day during staffed hours (7:30-4:00), the student, parent, or community member should call the school and/or seek an administrator ASAP for prompt action. If this information emerges outside of the school day, please call 911 immediately. The safety and wellbeing of our Wredling family are always our top priority!

A modern take on the classic fairytale Cinderella, CTE’s original show, Ella is perfect for a 21st century audience! It’s the “classic” tale of a young girl becoming victim to her wicked stepmother and stepsisters’ evil whims. Ella’s life becomes one of drudgery until she can escape and fall in love. Of course, that’s how the story goes, but what twists and turns will CTE take in its reimagined version? You’ll have to come see the show to find out!
