Mr. Brad Bohn - BHS Teacher of the Year
Beckman High School's Teacher of the Year for 2020-21 is Mr. Brad Bohn. Brad is an outstanding teacher who always keeps his students engaged. He works tirelessly to create meaningful, practical, and applicable lessons for his students to ensure that they are interested and learning at all times. His Socratic method of teaching allows him to connect with kids and causes them to feel comfortable in his class. To quote Mr. McGill “From the beginning, Brad has and continues to be one the most inquisitive, perceptive, and reflective teachers in the department. He is constantly seeking ways to improve his instruction and to improve student achievement and well-being.” Congratulations to Mr. Bohn… Beckman High School’s Teacher of the Year!
Graduation Update
There have been some questions circulating about Gradation. At this point, we are planning various options for an in-person graduation of some kind. We are not exactly sure what that will look like because so much of what we are able to do hinges on where we fall within the tiered framework set by the state. Our hope is to give the seniors a culminating experience with the rest of their classmates in a safe and responsible manner. For those of you who may consider flying relatives in to attend the ceremony, please know that attendance will likely be limited in some manner. Rest assured… as we know more, we will share the details with you.
Sports Update
Course Selection for 2020-21
The counseling team kicked off registration with virtual Counselor Coffees the week of January 18th, with the goal of helping parents understand the registration process. Freshman were provided a lesson on building a 4 Year Plan during their Wednesday Tutorial on January 27th that is now visible in Aeries. This plan can be changed as students meet with their counselor for registration this year. Sophomore and Juniors were provided a review of College Entrance and Graduation Requirements along with grade level specific information at their Wednesday Tutorial on January 27th. On Wednesday February 3rd, all 9th – 11th graders will hear an overview of course selection and details of how to register in Aeries for the 2021-2022 school year in their Wednesday tutorial. Counselors will then meet individually with students by grade level through one of their current classes. Please work with your student to help them consider their interests and workload when selecting classes for next year. Students with specific questions should attend their counselor’s office hours or send them an email. All lessons remain visible in Schoology if your student missed any of the Wednesday lessons.

Healthy Limit Waiver
As our students begin to think about course selection for next school year, please keep in mind that the Healthy Limit Waiver process is still in place. Students will be allowed to take a set number of weighted classes based on their grade level. If they choose to exceed that number by one course, parents and students will have to complete the Healthy Limit Waiver process which can be found on the counseling page of our website. This waiver is in place to help our parent and student community make healthy decisions about the course load that they take on. Please refer to the link below for details.

WASC Visit
Beckman High School is in the midst of final preparations for a WASC visit in February of 2021. The school has spent the last year and a half analyzing current areas of strength and areas of need to create a comprehensive report for the seven-person accreditation team. The WASC team is slated to begin it’s virtual visit on the morning of Sunday, February 7th, and will complete this step in the accreditation process on February 10th. The accreditation team will virtually observe classroom instruction, interview focus groups, which will include students, staff, faculty, and parents, and meet with District personnel to celebrate growth and establish recommendations for future improvements.
