Sweet Potato Mania!
A big thank you to all of our outdoor classroom committee teachers and students who participated in the Great Sweet Potato Harvest of 2019! We harvested 153.5 pounds - yes POUNDS - of sweet potatoes this year! See photos below for the longest, largest, and heaviest. These weren't just grown and harvested to look at - we donated the sweet potatoes to our community, we cooked them here at school, we sampled several ways to make sweet potatoes, and we sent sweet potatoes home with our staff to cook with their families. What an awesome community garden! Thank you to Ms. Patti for the concentrated efforts to get these sweet potatoes growing and harvested!
Biking4Books
Last weekend on one of the coldest, rainiest days of the year, St. Louis Public Schools partnered with Biking4Books for an EPIC day of fun! Normally, this day would have been a charity bike ride that raises money for St. Louis Public Schools students to receive brand new books. The weather prevented the bike ride from occurring, but it certainly did not stop the fun and the festivities. Through community partnerships, students were able to receive not only five brand new books (that they got to choose themselves!), but they also went home with a brand new bike, sized exactly to them. WOW! We were in awe of the event, and we left feeling well fed and well cared for by our community. Thank you so much to Biking4Books for their incredible support of St. Louis Public Schools, to our families who came out in the rain and made the most out of the day, to our volunteers who came in on a Saturday and came in VERY early to get everything set up, and to our students who represented their schools so well!
Halloween Celebrations
Thank you to our district office at 801 N 11th Street for hosting a fantastic trick-or-treating experience for all of the students of Patrick Henry! We are lucky enough to be located within walking distance of the St. Louis Public Schools Board of Education, and each year they host an awesome Halloween celebration with every office decorated and fully of candy. They even had a haunted house for our upper elementary students! The screams and giggles were hilarious. Thank you to all of our students, staff, parents, and volunteers who coordinated our walk to the event, and for your brave attitude in such cold temperatures! You all looked awesome in your costumes!
Thank you, US Coast Guard!
Ms. Munnelly has a personal connection to the US Coast Guard, and they offered to support our students and provide an incentive to students with perfect attendance for Quarter 1. We are so proud of our students for coming every day on time, and we are so thankful to the Coast Guard for their support of our students! Help us congratulate those students who received the pizza party invitation for their perfect attendance during first quarter!
