12/18-1/1 Winter BreakA Note From MIT Parentchair Molly
Can you believe Winter Break is just around the corner? Students are counting down the days!
Thanks for sticking with us as we work through some changes with our communications. We’ve just moved to a new mail platform called Smore. It’s a little less expensive than what we were using before, and we are hoping it is a bit more user-friendly.
We appreciate the time you take to scroll through our weekly email. This is the best way we have to share with you all the MIT-related things happening at school. You’ll find important dates, ways to contribute to our school community, surveys, and ways to volunteer in our newsletter. We also post the newsletters on our blog https://www.madronabearfacts.com/ If you have information to share in our newsletter, you can find instructions below.
We look forward to connecting with you next year at our next MIT meeting on January 8. If you have thoughts, questions, or comments before that time, please email me at MITParentChair@gmail.com –Molly Tobias
Madrona Miles Club Interest Survey
Madrona Miles Club is a before-school opportunity for students to come walk, jog or run the track to get their bodies and minds ready to learn. Students earn incentives for each mile they run. It is a drop-in, come-when-you-can program for all students, kindergarten through 8th grade. Families are welcome to join their runners!
We are hoping to bring MMC Back beginning in January. Please complete this survey to share your level of interest in both your child(ren) participating in this *free* opportunity, as well as your interest and availability in volunteering to help the program.

Madrona Giving Tree
Madrona Giving Tree is our annual drive to help families in need within our school community. You can help two ways: pick up a tag or two off the tree located in the main office. Return the tag and associated gift, unwrapped to the main office by December 8. Alternatively, you may make a cash donation here: https://checkout.square.site/buy/V62Q5HPR37RXU5EAFMV4PXMG Donations will be used to purchase any unfulfilled gift requests and gift cards to distribute among the families. Thank you so much for your support of these families. All donations must be collected by December 8. Questions? Please reach out to Lindsay at MITViceChair@gmail.com
MCT Art Opportunity
The Madrona Children's Theater is looking for your imagination! We need your talent to design the poster art for this year's show, SHREK JR.! Any Madrona Student can enter but is limited to ONE entry per student. Your art must be completely ORIGINAL and in black and white with only ONE color that relates to the show. All submissions must have your NAME and CENTER on it and be received by 12/15/23 to the Main office or emailed to madronachildrenstheatre@gmail.com.
Good luck! The chosen design will be announced on 01/03/23! This is going to be an OGRE of a good time!
School Levy
Are you interested in supporting the School Levy happening in February? Teams are being created now to help with the campaign.
A School Election Team includes the building principal, teachers, paras, parents and Parent Club members. We are hoping for about 6 members per team but more would ALWAYS BE WELCOME. Schools would like to have teams created by December 1.
What will School Election Teams do?
Teams would engage in any or all of the following:
Come with your SET Team Members to the SET Launch hosted by Yes for Kids! on December 5, 2023 at the MLT Senior Center at 3:30 PM for Secondary SET Teams and 5:00 PM for Elementary SET Teams.
Post informational flyers in office areas.
Post a sign in your yard
Phone calling
Sign Waving
and in general, knowing the talking points and being able and willing to speak about the election,
...and more...

We are working to streamline the communication from MIT. If you have an article you’d like to have included in our weekly email, please email your blurb to Molly at MITParentChair@gmail.com by Saturday at noon to be included in the following week’s email. If you’d like the article to be included for multiple weeks (for example, a signup genius for volunteer opportunities) please include that information. We are working to update the website to make submissions for the weekly email an option. Thanks.

MIT Technology Updates
New email system is operational.
Our volunteer web developer, Michael Scott McGinn, has successfully integrated the new Smore newsletter system into MadronaBearFacts.Com. Now our weekly newsletter will be richer and more interactive to keep you all informed about all of the fun MIT things going on at Madrona K-8.
Open Call for technology volunteers. We need to find additional web site support volunteers to help post updates to the web site and produce the MIT news letter emails. A few hours each week are needed. Zoom Training will be provided by Michael Scott McGinn in how to use WordPress, Smore and ChatGPT tools to create images and story editing ideas. If you would like to volunteer please email Molly at MITParentChair@gmail.com
